Note: I am 22 years old, while I do occasional take classes at my local community college, I am not enrolled, nor do I even get a good GPA – so I can’t do the CP, but can do the CS program, since I graduated little before 48 months ago. Also, I am right now holding two jobs – a buss boy at a dinner and an usher at a movie theater. I think that also makes me look fairly good. One more side-note, as some of you probably have seen my past threads – been wanting to get a job at Disney for a while. This seems to be the best option, aside from actually going down there and applying in person. And I wouldn’t have to worry about an apartment right away. I figure, ride the months out – be as kick-______ as I can, then permanently move down there.
Sooo…my interview came and went, like an instant flash. It was 15 minutes long, short/sweet, and to the point. And I have to say, I am confident it went well. And this is the low-down of it…
-I was interviewed Friday, the 23rd 830 am, and was interviewed by a female. The questions seemed as straight-forward as possible. I’ve had many interviews in my day (been working since I was 15). And I’ve had all sorts of questions within interviews. I answered every question without hesitation, or a pause. I think that’s another plus.
-I was asked of which program I am interested in: fall or fall advantage…. When I asked what's the difference, and got the skinny of it, my eyes went up! Fall advantage, means a few months earlier – so…I would be starting in May. Hence, the advantage! HMMMMM…of course, I choose that one! (but have a slight little time issue – I live in Michigan, I am going down Florida April 20th, for a family vacation – will I find out the verdict before then? I am hearing two to four weeks. HOWEVER, if this is for MAY – I suspect it will be before April 20th!).
-I was asked what are the top four departments I am interested in. I said, in order – Custodial, operations, merchandise, and quick service food and beverage. Then I was asked of that list, where would I fit the most – I said custodial and operations. I also went on, to say – while I understand "hopper" is not available for this program, I am very much interested into being crossed-trained in other departments. I think this was another plus, since a) I am familiar with other departments not listed with the program, and b) it shows I really desire the position(s), and will work hard within those positions.
-I was asked what I would do in two scenarios regarding the two top departments I picked. First off – regarding the custodial department, what would I do if a guest comes up to me, not speaking any English, and seems a bit distressed. I said, I would make the attempt to calm that person down, using my hands and talk very slowly as an indication that I am here to help – and I would radio my supervisor/and/or/manager about the problem at hand. I think I answered that well. Then I was asked in regards to operations – I am in control of lines for Tower of Terror. Some guests come in, very excited for the ride, but does not meet the height requirement. What do I do? I made a strong point, that I am use to this sort of thing at the theaters – in regards to kids and rated R movies. I said, I would be very direct, point out that they can not ride this attraction ride because of their height, and suggest another attraction park ride in its stead. Although, there are things I should have added, I think I made a good point.
-When asked why I am interested in the program at hand – I said, I would like the experience, and also have an interest in relocating down in Florida. She seemed pleased about this…
-When asked how I feel about other roommates – I said it would be interesting and fascinating. I expanded, on the various and versatile people I would meet – their various ideas/religions/and just traits all together. I was also asked how I would handle a situation on what I would do if a roommate borrowed something of mine without asking, I said I would approach them, be very direct, and if things don't go well – go to my supervisor and or manager, and or the person in charge the apartments. I think I answered that well.
-When asked if I have ever been to the park – I said, yes. Very familiar with both Magic Kingdom and MGM. She also asked me what's my favorite ride. I said, the Movie Ride – and also added that it is a shame it won't last much longer. Also not sure if this was a good thing to say, or not. But – to defend it, at least it's known that I am fairly knowledgeable about the park, past/present/and possible future.
-I also pointed out that I am a movie buff, and very familiar with the history of the parks, and Walt Disney himself. She seemed a bit interested on that, and tried to get me to expand more on that. I basically said I am knowledgeable about movies, and very familiar with Walt Disney's impact on the motion picture world. Also made a little jab on the "good" Disney movies. She chuckled.
-Then we went on to my work history. She seemed to be impressed by my work experience (and, I used this well, for I knew this is my only way into the door). She asked what's my favorite, and less favorite moment working. I said, anytime there is a sold out show at the theaters – and while there is a bunch of theaters getting out at the same time. Made a strong case that I am at the top of my game, during these moments. And love the stress of these moments. Then, I said anytime I work at the dinner is my less favorite. Then, I elaborated that I dislike getting dirty at that place, despite the fact I enjoy cleaning, I just dislike cleaning dishes entirely. And how I hate working there when I am the only buss boy, and it's busy – and the manager is busy doing their own thing, and I am the only one in the buss room. She then asked, how do I handle a situation like that, when the weight is on my shoulders. I said, I am the fastest buss boy, and I usually get through it anyhow. I have a good outlook on that, and it gets me through it. I think I did well here.
All and all, I am fairly positive I got the job. Just, as everyone else – waiting for the that royal letter in the mail. And what makes things interesting, on my behalf – is the trip that’s planned, as well as the week notices I have to give my two employers. I don’t mind waiting, but I don’t exactly have a lot of time to spare!
Anyhow, just wanted to let others’ know how the Disney CS interviews are. They are as simple as it can be (and this is coming from someone, that bombed interviews in the past for very hard and irrelevant questions pertaining the job at hand). And also like to know from others that currently is working at Disney, and or has in the past – how I did during the interview. It’s also good to hear others perceptivities, so maybe one can improve for future references, when it comes to interviews.
