So I'm trying for a quick trip to Orlando for the Holidays. For Dec 18- 21 I was comparison shopping between CSR in Disney and RP in Uni. Here's my comparison:
CSR- standard $308/night (Fl res rate)
RP- King Suite $272 (AP rate) (+$20 parking- still less)
:greedy::confused::jawdrop:
Does Disney even TRY to be competitive anymore? WTH???

Yes, but you can't get any cheaper on site than RPR whereas I can get much cheaper at WDW if I go Value (and especially if I happen to get free dining).

You can get a "standard" room at RP for less than a Value at Disney. I don't need to explain how much nicer RP is than ASMu. "free" dining is buried in the price of the package. Plus you get the added value of Express Pass. MMW+ is just obnoxious.

I agree that RP is nicer than the WDW Values, but given that we literally just sleep in our room, we don't need much from a resort. Express Pass is a huge value at UO if you are there at a peak time, but we tend to travel during non-peak times so it isn't a major consideration for us - nice but not necessary. (Of course I may rethink that when paper FPs are completely gone at WDW and I am stuck with just 3 FPs through MMW+.) Food tends to add up for us (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 tween) so free dining works out to be a nice perk if we can get it.

Universal has an 1800 room value resort opening in 2 months. It will be less expensive than WDW's.

That will be nice and enticing!

No, Disney is really not trying to compete with Uni when it comes to pricing, room size or service in the hotels.

Wow. I would never pay $300 for Coronado Springs. And that's my favorite Moderate resort too.

Whenever I think about staying on Disney property and the Moderates are creeping up towards $150 a night, I figure it can't be much more to stay at Uni so I change my plans there. The Universal hotels are deluxe in every way. There's no comparison.

Creeping toward $150 - I wish!

I paid $203 or $205 a night at CSR about seven years ago. It was a water view, but still. I remember thinking we could've gone to AK for like twenty more bucks, but the person I was with had to check CSR off their "Stayed there" list, so it had been agreed that we'd stay there. It was before they re-did the rooms, so I know it's been quite a few years now.

Disney prices are way too high. It's going to backfire on them. People are going to stay offsite. I am living proof that once someone goes offsite and finds out how much better it is, it is harder to drag them back to WDW hotels.

Uni hotels are expensive, too. But you're getting what you pay for there. And you get FOTL. :)
