If you are doing the college program, is it required to live in the disney provided housing, or are you allowed to live and rent elsewhere?

Do CP participants have to live in provided housing?

It is not required.
After you accept your role you must email the housing office and give an address and contact information for where you are going to live.
The housing team will respond with their decision within a week or so. (you still need to pay the assessment fee)
I would recommend that if you havent done a college program before that you live in their housing. A big part of the CP is the experience you gain from living with people from all around the world.
I will not be living in housing this time as I am moving to Orlando. I did live in Vista Way for my first program in 2005.

thanks so much! that helps a ton. i'm moving too orlando too, so staying at the CP housing isn't really the best option for me. thanks so much for the information- that just made my day so much better!
