DME but taking one bag?

So when you use DME, is it an option to pick up your bags at baggage claim? Everytime I've used DME, we've just let all our bags get delivered. But with our upcoming trip, we're camping at Ft Wilderness, so I figured it would be best to at least grab the tent before heading out to the Fort, so we can set that up while it's light out and we're still awake.

There's no problem with that right? Could we even still put the Magical Express tag on it? Or does that make it not go on the carousel?

Even though I'm a big fan of using DME's automatic luggage delivery and almost always privately scoff at people who don't trust it and won't pack decent carry-ons for their immediate use, your situation is one in which it's very smart to get your own luggage, since it doubles as your hotel room.

I can't imagine waiting several hours for my hotel room to arrive.

Yes, by all means, you can claim your own luggage. And your suspicion is correct ... if you put a yellow DME luggage tag on your tent, you will NOT be able to claim it at baggage claim. Luggage with those tags gets pulled before it reaches the baggage claim carousel.

Leave the tent un-tagged, go claim it yourself, and take it to the bus with you.

If you are checking other luggage, you can tag it if you want (DME luggage service is NOT an "all-or-nothing" proposition) and have it delivered, or you can get it yourself when you get the tent. I'd probably opt for the latter ... if I'm going to have to wait at baggage claim anyway then I might as well get it all at one time. However, if NOT lugging all the luggage at one time is attractive to you, then you can certainly tag the rest of it and let DME take care of it.

I do the SAME THING. I don't know why, really.

Okay but yes, I'll make sure we don't tag the tent.
I think the only reason I considered letting the rest of it get tagged was because it's the rest of my friend's first times and I just want to show them the magic of disney, haha!

I Like Your thinking! Taking your bags on the bus is just a bit inconvienient. This way, only the one bag with Your "room" will be a carry on. Have a Great time at Disney! I Love the Campgrounds there.
