DL's dedication speech on WDW planning DVD

I just received the WDW planning DVD in the mail and popped it into my player after getting settled into my apartment.

It starts with a little 50th montage, as I'm sure many of you have seen. In that plays Walt's dedication of Disneyland -- except it's been changed!

Well, not changed so much as edited. On the DVD, we hear Walt say, "...dedicated to the ideals and dreams that have created America."

What happened to the hard facts?

I was a bit taken aback. I understand that a lot of really stupid things can be attributed to marketing, but to change Disneyland's dedication and mission statement borders on sacrilege.

I noticed that too. Strange that they changed it. I guess they figured saying that Disneyland was dedicated to "the hard facts that have created America" didn't sound quite so magical. But then, who knows why the marketing dept decides to do anything. :hammer:

I'm almost positive this has been touched on in the past... I don't really see any problem with it. It was just edited. *shrug*

I just recieved it as well...

One thing I noticed is that they went through MK, MGM, and EPCOT. Then they went through recreation etc...

Only after all that did they come back to Animal Kingdom. This baffles me. Does Disney not consider AK a theme park?

My family and I just returned from Disneyland earlier this week, and they have a Resort TV Loop in their resort rooms (like us). We saw this montage-like commercial as well, and I brought that up to my mom.

Then again, my mom doesn't know the DL Opening Day speech by heart like I do... :lookaroun

Hmm... I wonder why they did that? On one of the windows of the World of Disney store in DTD (in CA), the Opening Day speech is printed on in cursive with a really nice window display. Low and behold, the "hard facts" is still in the quote. :veryconfu Oh, well.

I searched briefly, but didn't turn up anything useful. I moderate a similarly large community and sometimes, it's hard to find existing information without already knowing where it might be.

I agree that the edit isn't the end of the world, but it seems in some ways disrespectful of the circumstances surrounding Disneyland's conception and construction. It abandons history in favor of perception and that, in my mind, is unscrupulous.
