Greetings All:
I am hot, slightly sunburn, and dehydrated. See what I go thru for all of you.
I visited the big DL to see what was in store for the 50th celebration. I will tell you about the event itself and then the big plans.
EVENT:
Hot, dang hot, that is what I remember most. There are 2 reasons why that sticks in my head.
First, us peons were kept behind a line that was roughly from Frontierland across the Hub to Tomorrowland. (The Hub was excluded.) The stage was in front of the Castle. To say that is a bit far back is an understatement. To DL's credit, there were 2 big screens to let us actually see what was happening.
Second, and worse, the sound system was horrible. The only speakers used were the ones that flank the entrance to the Castle, and they were low at that. I could not hear a single word from Art Linkletter. Later in the show they turned them up slightly so we could hear a little.
The press received a pre-published 'newspaper' called Main St Gazette. This little press promo contains the info for the big plans. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one from a very nice CM.
OVERVIEW:
The celebration will be at all 10 Parks world wide. And in tribute to the pioneering spirit of DL, the parks will share rides. Ok, that was the general premise. Why create when you can just duplicate. I am not saying that is 100% bad but this is the 50th guys, can't you get a bit creative. Oh well, here is the scoop park by park, in the 'park' order as it was presented today.
WDW RESORT
MK: Will get Cinderellabration from Tokyo. This is a musical celebrating " Cinderella's Royal Coronation." It will be in front of the Castle replacing Cinderella's Surprise Celebration.
EPCOT:
As most of us know, Cal Soarin will go into Epcot. Also there will be a preview center for Hong Kong DL.
MGM
The Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show will be coming from Paris DL.
AK:
Lucky the Animatronic free roaming dinosaur will find a new home in Dinoland USA. Lucky first debuted in DCA.
And the 'new' ride Expedition Everest as we all know.
PARIS DISNEYLAND
They will get Wishes from the Magic Kingdom
TOKYO DISNEYLAND
Some sort of vague tribute to Walt Disney begins summer 2005. Sounded like guests can win a trip to DL. (Sorry sounds was bad and they weren't clear; even in print.)
Another new attraction will be the Lost River Delta Thrill Ride will go into DisneySea. This ride will feature "a vertical 360 loop" and "special effects employing fire and water." Sounds very cool.
HONG KONG DISNEYLAND
Heck, they just hope to opent he doors. Construction is on time for a late 2005 or early 2006 opening.
AND - LAST BUT NOT LEAST - DISNEYLAND The Original:
The celebration is set to begin on 05/05/05 - exactly one year from today. In case you missed it, read it backwards and you get 50/50/50.
CASTLE
"Gowned in swaths of richly colored royal banners, bejeweled with precious stones, trimmed in gold, and topped with 5 regal turret crowns."
"By day the majestic showpiece will be the stage for numerous fanciful celebratory moments. As night falls the Castle will be transformed into an animated, kaleidoscope canvas of ever changing whimsical colors and charming imagery.
I guess that about says it all.
MAIN STREET OPERA HOUSE
The tribute to Walt has indeed found a home! That is great as the last rumors I heard was that is might be scrapped. Obviously it will be a celebration of the 50 years, Walt's Dream, and features a new film on Walt.
WALT DISNEY'S PARADE OF DREAMS
The concept art looked cool. Finally we get something new. They say the parade will have over 100 cast members. I remember the marching bands that used to have 76 people alone. Anyway, sounds good.
REMEMBER - FIREWORKS SHOW
The most elaborate ever for the DL Park. Now this sounds very very good. I can't wait for to see this one. "Incredible score, sound effects, and dramatic pyrotechnics, lighting effects, will amaze guests of all ages." It is a journey through 50 years of rides and movies.
BUZZ LIGHTYEAR ASTRO BLASTER
Here is our present from another park as Buzz comes to DL from the MK.
SPACE MTN RETURNS
Bigger and Better then ever - or so they say.
DCA
Block party Bash - "Throughout the park guests will be astonished to find themselves literally surrounded by spontaneous street parties featuring Disney characters." Sounds kind of interesting.
One Final Element - Disney Cruise Line:
Starting May 28, 2005 and running for 12 consecutive weekends, the Disney Magic will call the port of LA home. These trips are 7 day voyages and will hot places like Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas.
So - that is the big stuff. The event was nice. I shot video, of course. I am not sure how the sound will be. I may need the assistance of some pros to bring out actual words. The festivities included some dancers, Julie Andrews, and in the end a ton of Disney Characters.
If you have questions, please fire away. I will do my best to answer.
