that caught me off guard because i bought a book (walt disney world for couples) and there wasnt any mention of Dixie Landings, and i stayed there in 98 and loved it! I mean, i imagine the resort is mainly the same? Oh well, someday ill have enough money to stay at the Grand Floridian!! :)

Upon Speaking to a Bus Driver at WDW this is what I learned...

There were a few factors that went in to this decision to combine.

1)The resorts are sister resorts and many people look at them as one anyway with the combined theme.

2)Again with the Theme Disney thought that it was more creative to do the hotel's this way for people who would look at the resort as the same place in two different areas.

3)A Big Reason was a name change because people thought the word Dixie was offensive.

4)Another big reason was the size of French Quarter. It is half the size of all the other moderates. They wanted to combine it so peeople who try to make reservations at one that is full (particularly FQ) will go to the other not thinking they are two different resorts.

Truthfully I think that the combination is nice because of the contrasting theming.

Ok had to put my 2 cents in, but those who know me already know this!

I miss Dixi Landings, I hate the fact they changed the name and caved to P.C. It was so much more a romantic name then P.O. I don't belive with all the changes in signs and merchandise that it really was a cost saving measure. But then again they did it, so there is really anything that can be done about it now.

To me it will always be D.L. but than again, just read my signiture!!!

I think it was cheaper for Disney to merge the two resorts.

Reasons - Close one restaurant and Guest Check in.

Only have to pay for one GM.

people are way too pc now-a-days. Give me a break, id go to dixie landings regardless of if it said dixie or not. i mean, dixie is part of our american history. itd be one thing if it was the "confederate landings" or anything like that. That would be like making the "Dole Plantation" in Hawai'i change its name to the "Dole Farm" because the term plantation is often reminiscent of slavery. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! (Oh well, i mean, if we want to get ultra critical here, then we could make the argument that Disney owned ABC FAMILY shouldnt show the show ALIAS, last time i watched it it was far too violent for any "family" show. it is also the same channel that has on the 700 club). I dont know, i agree totally that disney shouldnt cave into the whole PC thing, but there are people out there who are more than willing to point a finger and call someone racist or prejudiced and then sue over something so minimal. IF YOU DONT LIKE THE NAME DONT STAY IN THAT RESORT! There are 5 million other resorts on and around disney property!!!

Okay, now im off my soap box...lol:king: :zipit:

Sorry for the rambling there, i think being pc is bs!
