Distance between rides

In May I'll be taking my first trip to MK (I visited Epcot and MGM years ago.) I'll be taking my DS-4 and DD-8 and it seems we all have different things we want to see. How far of a walk is SM and BTM from the Jungle Cruise? If I run and get a fastpass could I get back to the Jungle Cruise in about 5 minutes or is MK more spread out than I think it is?

Thanks in advance!!

Congrats on the upcoming trip. Based just on my feeble memory, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder are, maybe, 10 minutes away tops. All this depends on crowds and such, of course, and whether or not you're trying to navigate the route during a parade. I'll try to remember to look in my Passporter, too. They have walking times between certain parts of the parks. If I remember :o , I'll post back.

By the way...

Too spread out

No - it is too spread out for that. NOt sure which SM you are referring to:

Space Mountain to Jungle Cruise, without a crowd there, takes about 5-6 minutes in each direction, walking or semi-running very quickly. With a crowd, it takes longer than that - and sometimes the wait AT Space Mountain can be 5 - 10 minutes depending on how many of the fast pass machines work, how many do not, and how many people are waiting to fast pass.

Splash Mountain and Big THunder Mountain are about the same time, although it is closer - still, you have to weave around the southwest portion of the park, always very congested. Probably 10 minutes back and forth PLUS however long you need to wait to fastpass.

NOTE: Fastpass is not instantaneous - you need to wait in most cases. Sometimes a minute, sometimes 10 depending on the attraction. SOARIN at epcot has amazingly long waits for the fastpass machines.

Have you taken a look at the Unofficial Guide to WDW 2006? Their touring plans actually work - and they are broken down by people alone, people with kids, adults only etc. The Magic Kingdom is larger than it looks, much much larger than its California equivalent, and the crowds make it next to impossible to travel quickly from one point to another.

I would allow more time than five minutes for a hike clear across the park from Jungle Cruise to Space Mountain (and back!), particularily if you don't have a fourth member of the party to leave the kids with you while you tie up your Nikes and sprint. Jungle Cruise and BTM are in adjoining lands, and therefore much closer together.

For what it's worth :) , here's what I'd do: arrive at the park as early as you possibly can, head straight for Space Mountain, and ride. If everyone loved it (how tall is your four-year-old?!?), get a FastPass to use later that morning, and head to either Jungle Cruise or BTM, and ride. (If you're relatively early, the lines shouldn't be too long.) Check the time on the bottom of your FastPass that a second FP will be available - at that time, obtain a second FP for the attraction you haven't experienced yet, and then head back to SM and ride. Then it should be about time for you to use that second FP. And so on...it does mean some backtracking, but if you're willing (and the kids are willing) to hoof it a bit, you can maximize your ride time in that manner.

Of course, if you aren't up for a marathon, just decide which attraction you want to see the most, get there first, and go from there. There's plenty to do and see along the way!

Have a great trip!

Since you put them together, I am assuming you mean Splash and Big Thunder. You can easily make it from those attractions to JC in 5 minutes with a brisk walk. However, to make it from JC there and back in 5 is pushing it. My suggest is to stay together and then split at the hub. If you take the northwest route toward Liberty Square and Frontierland while everyone else takes the Adventureland route, the extra walk time should make up for it, and everyone won't be standing at JC without you for 10 minutes or so.

You can reduce your walk to the Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain from the Jungle Cruise by taking the shortcut from Adventureland through the opening by Aladdin's Magic Carpets...however, like it was said in one of the previous posts, there is normally a line at the fastpass kiosks in that area. It is also very conjested at times.

I don't know exactly how much time it takes to run from BTMRR to JC. I have obtained FastPasses for my whole family while they are somewhere else a number of times. If you're going to be doing this more than once, here are a couple of tips:
1. Upon entry into a park, immediately collect everyone's tickets.
2. A good time to get FastPasses for everyone is when the kids are playing at one of the playgrounds, such as at The Boneyard.
3. Pathways in the AK are narrow - if it's crowded at all, it's near impossible to actually run there.
4. Have walkie-talkies or cell phones just in case something comes up while you're separated.

Time is relative.

WDW to Cape Canaveral: 1 Hour
WDW to Miami: 5 Hours
WDW to Atlanta: 8 Hours

Space Mountain to Anywhere: Timeless

Unless you've got a plane to catch after the ride (and if you do, you've planned your trip poorly), slow down and enjoy the view. If you keep looking at your watch while you race between attractions you'll miss something important: the Magic Kingdom!

By the way, I'm not sure if they'll allow you to take your droids in. You'd better call ahead.

Thanks everyone for the info. It never dawned on me that there would be a wait to get a Fastpass. I think I'll just go with the flow instead of high-tailing it to Splash or Thunder Mountain as soon as the gates fly open.
