Disney's Vero Beach Resort

I am a DVC member and for winter break, the first week in January, I am going to Vero Beach for a couple nights with my boyfriend.

I have a few questions..I have never been to Vero before, I am from South Florida...today was the first time I had ever been to St. Augustine and I fell in love with all the quaint shops and adorable cafes. How far is the resort from the rest of the "downtown" area. For someone who has been to both Vero and St. Augustine before, are there quaint shops in Vero all in one area? How far is that from Vero.

We will be driving from South Florida, so obviously we will have a car and be able to drive around and explore.

Is there anything we should not miss? Any restaurants within a decent proximity to Disney's Vero Beach? Also, is there any type of website which has more info on Vero Beach shops/restaurants? I have been searching for one and can't find anything too good.

Any tips are greatly appreciated, thank you all so much!

Ah i love disney's vero beach. It is deff my favortive. There is so much to do there. First, the hotel is so nice, and they make you feel like you are at "home" I dont know if you have kids going but there is so many activties there for them. The pool is so fun, even if you are older you will still love the slide. Just make sure you wake up early and get a spot by the pool. You are right by the beach, and can go from the beach to the pool all day. . The resturants aren't great at the hotel, they are kinda over priced. But outside of disney's hotel there is tons of good ones. You have to go to the Ocean Grill. It is an great place. You should prob make reservations before you go. Another good resturant is a block over, i dont remember the name but i will try to find it out. There is tons of good resturants in Vero. The shopping isn't good, its a lot of small stores, but there is outlets. If you have any questions feel free to ask

a good website for resturants is http://www.metatiki.com/index.cfm?method=cities_businessListings_businesslisting&methods=Listings&BusinessType=Food%2FDining&city=VeroBeachFL

I am interested to know more about the small stores. Were they like just touristy keychain/t-shirt type places? Or did they have a lot of different stuff?

And..how far were the restaurants outside of the resort?

Thanks so much!

We always go to Capt. Hiram's Restaurant which is in Sebastian (about 3 miles north of the resort). We've heard good things about the Ocean Grill but have yet to try it. Ocean Grill is in the town of Vero Beach, about 8 miles south of the resort.

All the stores in Vero Beach are basically specialty shops, or boutique. There was different stuff in each store. Also i forgot to tell you, there is a super Wal-Mart in Sebastion on highway 1. It is so much easier, and cheaper to buy food, suntan lotion etc there. The restaurants can range from a 5 or half hour drive, it all depends on where you want to go. But none of them are in walking distance.
