I wonder why they haven't done this sooner. It has to be a no brainer in Florida. I always wondered why it was not more wide spread at the parks. I know some of the building have solar panels. It will save them a bundle and be great for the environment. I think there will be over 48000 panels used.
Duke Energy Goes To Disney World With 5 MW Solar Project

Law360, New York (May 28, 2015, 3:24 PM ET) -- Duke Energy Corp. said Wednesday that its Florida subsidiary was approved to build, own and operate a Disney-themed 5 megawatt solar facility at Disney World in Orlando, according to a news release.
The Reedy Creek Improvement District Board of Supervisors sealed the deal Wednesday by agreeing to purchase electricity from Duke Energy Florida Solar Solutions LLC under a 15-year power-purchase agreement, the company said.
The solar plant will be located on approximately 20 acres near World Drive and Epcot Center Drive at the Walt Disney World Resort, according to the news release.
While Duke said the site’s 48,000 solar panels will be arranged in the shape of a Disney-inspired design, there is no word yet on whether they've chosen Mickey Mouse’s famous ears or another iconic Disney logo as part of the deal.
"Our new solar facility agreement is another example of how we’re always looking at innovative ways to conserve our natural resources," Bill Warren, administrator for Reedy Creek Improvement District, which provides governmental services including utility systems for the area, said in a statement. "The use of solar energy builds on our commitment to protect the environment and is another step toward realizing our long-term sustainability goals."
Duke has been active in solar energy so far this year, announcing in April that it would build up to 500 MW of solar by 2024 as part of a 10-year plan to increase its solar portfolio.
The utility giant said earlier this month that it would retire its 376-megawatt coal-fired plant in Asheville, N.C., by early 2020 and build a 650-MW gas-fired plant in its place, as well as install a solar farm at coal ash ponds near the old plant.
