I know Disney World adding a 5th Gate isn't going to be happening any time soon, but I sat down and thought about what I would like to see from a 5th Gate. The idea of Dark Kingdom had floated into my brain, but I thought it wasn't a concept strong enough to carry an entire park...but it gave birth to an idea.
Disney's Mysterious Island.
Eight realms of mystery and discovery await on the shores of Mysterious Island, anchored by a towering mountain known as Mysterious Peak.Taking some inspiration from Tokyo DisneySea, the park revolves around the patch of land that Mysterious Peak sits on and the river that surrounds it.
Here is a photo of my designed layout, and below is a full walkthrough of the park.
When you first enter the park, you enter into the World Bazaar, which acts like the parks Main Street. Street vendors sell their wares as you head off in one of three directions. Straight will take you towards Mysterious Peak, left will lead to the sun soaked sands of Lost Oasis, and right will lead to Adventure Cove. From these points, guests radiate out into the world of Mysterious Island and discover it's eight realms. For the sake of this demonstration, let's start out on the left. These are the lands that would open first, in PHASE I of the park's opening.
LOST OASIS
Inspired by the exotic worlds of Africa and the Middle East, here you will find sand stone buildings, and elegant street entertainment. The land's main anchor attraction is a dark ride based on Aladdin, similar in construction to Peter Pan's Flight, but with more sophisticated technology. There you will also find a thrilling hybrid coaster called Tomb of the Snake King, which combines a classic wooden coaster with innovative animatronics in Disney style
Onward we venture to
PORT MYSTERION
Based in a strange and unusual rainforest that sits on the banks of the river, guests find themselves emerged into a world of adventure and danger. Here you will find Indiana Jones and the Lost River, a shoot-the-shoot water ride that takes the guests along the ride with the famed archeologist and into a cursed temple. Here guests will also take in the strange happenings at the wonderful Mystic Manor, based on the Hong Kong ride with a few surprises for WDW guests. Guests will also be able to dine at the all new Adventurer's Club, which sits on the banks of the river, overlooking Wonder Lagoon.
Between Port Mysterion and the next land is a huge lagoon that houses the park's evening entertainment show, Wonders. A mixture of Fantasmic and World of Color style entertainment, the show offers 360 degree views from both Port Mysterion as well as the opposite shore. The show can also be seen from The Adventurer's Club.
Crossing the bridge across a waterway, guests find themselves in
LAND OF OZ
Taken from the pages of Frank L. Baum's work (as well as the recent Disney hit Oz the Great and Powerful) guests step into the world of Oz like never before. In the Emerald City, guests will thrill to a 4D interactive movie, as well as a walk through exhibit with costumes from Oz and beyond. Guests can also journey into the Witch's Castle in a creative interactive ride.
Between Oz and the next land lies a great wall of obsidian stone. In it is carved an arch that serves as the gateway to
DARK KINGDOM
Disney Villains reign supreme in this dastarly land, with a Maleficent dragon themed coaster as it's centerpiece, as well as a live stunt show showing how dangerous these villains can truly be. Also home to a walkthrough attraction with live actors scattered through out, and a wicked eatery where the bad guys join you for your meal.
Crossing another bridge, guests can venture to a more family friendly land
MOUSE LANDING
Here Guests can meet the famous Disney Characters in a nautical themed meet and greet, as well as see a fantastic stage show in the style of Mickey and the Magical Map from Disneyland.A Kiddie Splash area allows cool fun for the young ones, with room for some kid friendly rides in the future. The key attraction here is the Steamboat Willie experience, where guests board a steamboat that will sail around the river surrounding Mysterious Peak. The guests disembark this journey in Port Mysterion.
The last land opening in Phase One is
Mysterious Peak
This mini-land holds the park's signature opening day attraction, Mysterious Peak. A coaster going through the heart of the mountain, revealing it is a dormant volcano threatening to blow. This high speed coaster uses water to make things interesting as it traverses its way through the mountain. The land can be reached by bridges in Lost Oasis and and an area of Phase II.
PHASE II
Two lands will open in Phase Two. Here is where suggestions would be cool.
As you enter the park, on your right is
ADVENTURE COVE
A land themed with adventurous souls at heart.
Between Adventure Cove and Mouse Landing is
MONSTROUS ISLE
Monsters from all around the world, featured in various mythologies have come to Mysterious Island to stake their claim and their world is full of peril and thrills.
So, what do you think about this weird crazy idea? Anything to add? Anything you'd do differently?
