Hello Everyone,
I have a question for you. What is the point in Disney's Boardwalk? Is it meant to be an extention of Downtown Disney? Does it have any attractions?
Thanks!
Matt

It isn't an extension of Downtown Disney that is for sure, they aren't very close to each other. It is just a nice place to go and relax, the themeing is great, there are some good restaurants and stores. It is meant to resemble a boarwalk from the 20's/30's, it is quite nice at night to walk around with the Boardwalk all lit up.

I view it as a pleasant place to hang out and soak in the Disney atmosphere. It doesn' t have any attractions but there are restaurants, shopping, and street entertainment as well as clubs and bars. We don't spend all day there but do ususally go there for an hour or two. It is a good place to go your arrival day if you only have part of a day and don't want to burn one of your pass days.

The Boardwalk is totally seperate from DD.

The Boardwalk is a very charming area that is to resemble turn-of-the-century Atlantic City's Boardwalk. There are some really nice restaurants, clubs, shopping, surrey bikes and a game area. The area is a lot of fun at night. Next time your are at WDW you should give it a try.:)

If you want to try some food there for free go to the DVC speil. It only takes a few minutes and its very fun and an option we will be purchasing when we can afford it.

My husband loves the ESPN club. There's some cool show-type things there if you're into sports.

The main thing about the Boardwalk is a hotel. The entertainment area is there for theme and of course for the money. But remember the Boardwalk complex is centered around a hotel.

Someone I know not related to disney but instead to a political position told me this. Disney is huge on themes, every park or attraction has a story or country or some theme to tie it together.Well, with this fact in mind disney is a company trying to make money and its major revenue source is food and lodging, that's their cashcow. When DBW was in its planning stages in the late 80's gambling in Fl and the rest of the country was much tighter and more controlled then it is now. There were few if any "riverboats" or other legal gambling spots and if you gamble you either went to a shady, low jackpot indian reservation or Vegas or Atlantic city. All three of these options bring instant thoughts of sleeze, crime, and non-family entertainment. Disney had a great idea to bring gambling to DW without all the stigma, they would bring in the aristocratic and wholesome Atlantic City of yesteryear. Disney was aware if they announced the fact they were gonna bring in gambling people would automaticly think of sleazy AC or overdone Vegas and it would have a negative effect of Disney's public image. They began lobbying the FL senate in the late 80's under the table, never admitting to be Disney. I could not get a straight answer why but they were unsuccessful lobying and never did get the Fl laws concearning gambling changed, therefore they could not get the permits and build a casino. In my opinion give it another 10 years and there will be one.

I really hope Disney never puts in a casino. In my experience, even the nicest casinos in Vegas (Bellagio, Mandalay Bay) attract a decidedly non-Disney crowd.

I find this really strange because it doesn't fit with the Boardwalk theme at all. The Atlantic City of "yesteryear" didn't have any gambling. Gambling started in the late 1970s, once AC was already a dump (though it has improved over the last 25 year, though I wish it was the way my parent's describe it from their childhood!).

And for as much money as you can make from a casino, I'd be shocked if Disney would want the clientel that kind of business would bring in -- whether you like it or not, Casinos will always bring in a lot of sleezy people, no way around it. That idea seems totally the opposite of all the family friendly decisions Eisner and Wells made when they first came on the scene.

While I have seen some of the travel channel shows on Vegas and yes, a few hotels look cool, IMO the resorts at Disney are much better and they have a dozen of them. Why bother? The Italian hotel in vegas (can's spell, starts with V) is just like being at Epcot.

I agree with Married@WDW, I don't think Disney would bother with making money gambling. They are into entertainment for profit.

I really enjoy Boardwalk. My wife and I go there often. We love Jellyrolls and celebrated New Year's Eve 2002 there back in January. We had too much...um...pop...and were out of it the next day. Unfortunately, I missed the bowl game I had tickets for over in Tampa the next day.

It is a mini Pleasure Island without the entry fee, dancers or confetti.
