Disney's AIDA Cancelled!!!!!

It's no longer profitable in terms of ticket sales compared to other Broadway shows.

Shows on Broadway are constantly changing. Aida lasted longer than most do. The Disney produced musical "Poppins" will be appearing on Broadway sometime soon.

I belive Aida is being replaced by the Elvis compilation musical "All Shook up"

I thought Aida was just okay. It was certainly not as grand as the glorious "Lion King."

After all, it's no "Wicked"--now that it is an incredible musical.

Yes, imagineer is correct.

AIDA was no longer profitable, and since it is show BUSINESS, it ended its run.

And also correct that the new show All Shook Up will be taking over residency at the Palace Theatre.

And as wonderful as AIDA might have been, the quality of the show declined quite a bit after original stars (mainly Heather Headley) left the show. It became clear that she was the real reason to see the show, not the show itself.

It's a shame that it had to close... but that's Broadway. I'm positive that once rights are available, it will be huge in amatuer theater.

However, like imagineer said, "Poppins" is opening soon in London and will probably be in the US within the next two years, while "Tarzan" should be opening next year. "Tarzan" sounds interesting enough, with a stage set-up in the round like Cirque du Solei, and set pieces intersperced within the audience. Can't wait.

Early reviews for Poppins are that it is PHENOMENAL and the flying effects are some of the best seen on stage ever. Let's hope it's true!

I posted my review of it a couple of weeks ago.

It's good, but it does not bring anything new to the theatre from a presentation point of view. Personally I thought the flying was very basic and the design whilst effective was nothing new.

I went expecting something new and eyepopping for the £8million they spent and it was not.

However if you go expecing an excellent piece of traditional musical theatre you will love it. The audience I saw it with certainly did
