Here's a classic bit of DL merchandise that the park really should bring back: The wonderful flip books featuring hand-drawn animation of classic characters.
These affordable, simple souvenirs were sold in baskets on park sales counters for many years, and it seemed nearly every family who visited the park had at least one of these hanging around (probably in the same drawer as the leftover A and B tickets).
Pluto was my favorite (he ran in a circle), but the small collection also included Mickey twirling a lasso, Donald throwing a tantrum and Dale panicking. The flip books worked perfectly and handled wear and tear surprisingly well. They offered instant-education on how animation works. I can't think of any other souvenir that so simply and effectively let you take home a bit of true Disney magic.
Many years later, Disney publishing revived the idea as a series of tiny flipbooks with scenes from current films, and had them available in most major bookshops. Those were also excellent, but nowhere near as lovable as the originals.
Anybody else here own one of more of these now or back then?
