Ok, firstly, just for the record - I personally think this is complete BS and wouldn't have thought in a million years that Disney where involved in this, but I know you guys like to read about stuff like this so here is the article I recently found on the web in full...

Announced 28-8-03, Ireland is set to get its first theme park, due for opening in 2007. Few details are available at the moment, as the park has only been confirmed. Theme Park Ireland

Consortium boss denies superdump to be included in theme park:

Landfill dump in local area will be exhausted in four years; some locals are expressing concern that there may be a superdump included on some of the land bought for the theme park!

However, an official from the consortium denies this, saying that there will be neither a superdump nor a residential area

On the radio interview where he said this, the official also said the park will involve "a number of world-class household theme park names" I am unsure what exactly this means, perhaps companies e.g. Disney, Universal, Paramount or Six Flags are involved in the project?

Major new information on Ireland's Theme Park emerged today with nearly half a page of information in The Irish Times. The following points are those worth mentioning:

Name of park most likely to be "Vega City"
Located on 2,000 acres
Map of area of park included: see left or click here for larger picture
There are three potential major investors in the project. Two non-Irish investors are yet unidentified (Disney, Six Flags, Universal, who knows?) The third is a Cork property developer Mr Owen O'Callaghan
Vega City Consortium is headed by businessman Mr Louis Maguire Jnr.
Consortium is attempting to secure options on 2000 acres from 20 landowners and householders, in order to make planning application to Fingal County council.
Up to €115,000 has been offered per acre of agricultural land.
Landowners promised initial €3000 per acre to secure land options.
Basically, nothing can be done until the consortium have secured option on all 2,000 acres.
The same theme park was planned in west Dublin early in the year - it failed.
Landowners here however are very enthusiastic. Farmers are "very hopeful" and find the proposal "very attractive"
A sketch layout of the park has been produced! It shows a large lake in the centre for water sports, safari park with wild animals, leisure facilities and many "Disney-style rides" (quoting Irish Times Environment Editor Frank McDonald.) Whether "Disney-style rides means indoor shows, or large rollercoasters, is yet unknown

28-8-03:
Ireland's new theme park was announced this morning on National radio. The current details are as follows:

Business consortium "Vega City" group behind project.
Set to cost in the region of €7 billion (£3.8 billion)
Potential of creating 25,000 jobs
Larger than Phoenix Park
Has been "confirmed"
Theme Park area is over 3 square miles in size.
Complex to include hospital and apartments
Depends on 1) planning permission 2) sale of land in Lusk (area in north Dublin, near airport)
Should be open in 4 years (2007)
Fianna Fáil (governing political party of country) TD (MP) Jim Glennon gives it support. He says its "badly needed" and anything boosting the infrastructure of the area is needed.
To be built in north Co. Dublin, possibly near Dublin airport.
Centred on large lake for water activities.
Investors offering householders twice the value of their sites for development.
