Disneyland - Really need help

I know 100% that this is in the wrong forum, but I'm hoping the Mods will cut me some slack for maybe a day before moving it. The Disneyland Forum gets no traffic, and I really need some help in planning our first trip. I know that many here have been and also know that many of the travel agents can help as well. So, here go my questions:

1.How far in advance can you book a room only at Disneyland? WDW is 499 days, but DL operators are telling me they can't book past January.

2.I watched a couple of videos on youtube of the new rooms at the Disneyland Hotel. Some of the rooms have 2 beds, no sofa, and 1 ridiculously small sink. Some rooms have 2 beds, a pull out sofa, and vanity with 2 sinks. How do I ensure getting that type of room?

3.At the Grand Californian, are there any rooms with 2 beds and a sofa or pull out sofa that will sleep 5?

Thanks to the Mods for allowing this here, and if not, I understand, and thanks to anyone that can help me out!

I am here in California and go to Disneyland all the time. We stay there every visit and have been to both hotels. While the GC is nice (reminds me of the Wilderness Lodge) I think it is over priced and the rooms are small (reminds me of the size of the AKL rooms). I have never seen a standard non-suite room at the GC that sleeps 5. I have seen a king bed, or 2 queens or one queen and a bunkbed.

The rooms at the Disneyland hotel are much larger just because they were built back before they tried to squeeze you into small rooms. The new design is great and the only reason I have seen different room styles is if you go from one tower to the other. I don’t know how far out you can book but I know the rules out here are much different than WDW. Even the pricing is different. If there is a rack rate on the web site then as you get closer to your dates and availability goes down the prices go up. I once booked a month out and because of the lack of available rooms the price was 50% more than the price listed on Disney’s site. They are usually good about telling you what the room you are booking has in it so I would suggest calling and asking what room type you are booking.

I can't open Youtube at work but I remember my room in the Dreams tower had a different and larger bathroom than in the Magic Tower.
I also remember a sofa in the Dream Tower room with a wet bar where it would connect to the room next to us but I have not seen that room since the redesign.

The first video is squeezed so everything looks smaller, but that room is in the main tower were you check in. The lay out is good and the bath is not nearly as small as it looks in the video. The room is nice but not as big as the rooms in the tower overlooking Downtown Disney. I have heard some of the King bedrooms are very small

I gave you a couple of hours in the WDW News board :)

If everyone did post the Disneyland questions in the DL board, it would have more traffic. Hopefully you will get some answers!

Hope you have a good trip!

Thanks - I appreciate it.:)

Steve posted some good info, so that will help. As it turns out, I have to wait until about August to book my trip for next year, so there's plenty of time.

Have you considered the Good Neighbor hotels? I have to say, looking at a trip for my family in 2013 they look to offer a little more in options (there's a Marriott Suites a mile or less away).

Looked, but not serious. I want the total Disney experience, as this might be our only time to Disneyland. Then again, who knows? We may fall in love with it and that could become our new vacation destination.

I'm already "in love" with the new DCA and it isn't even finished yet! Ha!

We're excited for our trip too. I really want to stay at the DL Hotel, but the cost is so prohibitive. We can splurge and do it, but it is way over-priced. The rates are beyond ridiculous.

I truly love WDW but I SO wish they would find someone to head things up there who understands the importance of on-going routine maintenance, aesthetics and attention to detail. They seem to be able to master the concepts at DL... :brick:

I liked the Paradise Pier Hotel when I stayed there. It was easy walking distance to the other two, and rooms had a view of DCA. Remember that everything at DL is "across the street" from one another, not at all like WDW, where you are dependent on transportation. The distance between these hotels is shorter than the distance from your room to the front desk of most WDW resorts.

They actually upgraded us, also, to the "Malibu Suite" during that stay. It was Labor Day, and they were full. We were the last ones to check in, and they had given our room away, and told us that we were upgraded to the suite. (We said "no" of course -- yeah, right!) And it was grand. We had a living room, a kitchen, a dining room with 8 chairs at the table, a separate bedroom and two complete baths. The master bath had a glass shower. All of this for $99 a night, because it was leading into off season, and we had an annual pass (from WDW, which they recognized). This was in 2008.

That sort of thing happens all the time, and in increasing numbers lately.

Even in the best of families, WDW fans take one trip out west and become Disneyland fans quite suddenly.

Just to sort of ride on the coattails of this thread, I have never been to Disneyland and we are thinking about going there sometime in the next few years. I downloaded the app for my iPad and was checking things out and thought the Signature Suites were pretty neat, does anyone have an idea of how much those are a night? I'm sure it's astronomical, but I'm curious and from what I can tell, the website doesn't have the prices on it for those rooms. I just thought that one night in either the Big Thunder/Adventureland/Pirates room would be fun, then the rest of the time slummin' downstairs :ROFLOL:

Also, does anyone know what happens when you turn the they say not to turn in the Big Thunder Room?
