Disneyland possibility- Help

I am planning to be in LA October 29th. I have never been to Disneyland and I thought it would be nice to go there in the late afternoon/evening after my flight gets in.
Questions:
1.) I noticed on Yahoo Maps that from LAX, Disneyland is 30 minutes away. Even though it is a Sunday, I hear traffic in LA is horrible. Do you think it's more like an hour or more?
2.) That evening they have their Halloween event. The calendar says the park closes at 11:00pm. Since they have the event, can I assume that the park is not open to the general public till 11:00 and that you need a special Halloween ticket to stay in the park till 11:00? I have been to the MNSSHP at WDW before but it was a while ago so I don't remembee how that works. I would buy a ticket but the Disneyland website says they are sold out for that evening. It says California Adventure is closed at 6:00 pm so that is not an option.

Any info would be greatly appreciated since I can't find this info anywhere else :)

Orange County Airport is much closer. LAX is farther (as you mentioned) and it can take more than an hour to go the distance. Think of a 6 lane parking lot. Now Sunday might not be as bad so lets say 40 minutes. Remember you still need to go to the parking garage and than shuttle over to the park. If they are sold out of tickets than you will have to leave at park closing (7:00 PM I am guessing)

Figure about an hour to get you from LAX to Disneyland. it shouldn't be more than that. Now I believe the after hour halloween event is held at California Adventure, so it is very possible that Disneyland would be open until 11pm.

Ok well it looks like you are in luck. It seems that on the 29th Disneyland is open until 11:00 and it is not because of a special ticketed event. That is over at the California Adventure so go check out Disneyland while you are there.

You won't have a problem on Sunday,I lived in California almost my entire life. Just stay off the 110 freeway and take interstate 105 east to the 710 south and hit the 91 going east and get off at Harbor Blvd you will have no problem

When is the last time you lived in California. I live there now. Even Sunday is not always a piece of cake.

Also the exit to Disneyland now is Disneyland Dr. exit. They changed it all around and added new exits.

Thanks!

Wow thanks for the quick responses and also about the info regarding the ticket event being at Cali Adventure and not Disneyland!
These are the directions that we got off of Yahoo:
Get onto I-105 E.
Continue for 16.7 miles, then take the I-605 N/I-605 S exit.
Merge onto I-605 N.
Take the I-5/SANTA ANA FWY exit towards SANTA ANA (South).
Merge onto I-5.
Continue for 12.7 miles, then take the DISNEYLAND DR exit towards BALL RD.
Merge onto DISNEYLAND DR.

I guess it is worth a try. I have heard that Orange County is indeed closer but the problem is we fly out the next day for our honeymoon and we have to fly out of LAX so we are staying right near the airport.

Thanks for all the info!!!

Disneyland Dr. Exit is off Interstate 5, I never mentioned Interstate 5 in my post Harbor Blvd is off the 91. I was in California in March The lady said she will be arriving in the evening on Sunday and I know traffic hasn't changed since then. If you live in California now and have traffic problems on a Sunday evening then you haven't lived in California very long

***Checks my book and sees that this qualifies as a long time***

I have visited the L.A. area on a number of occasions. Traffic bites all the time. One Friday afternoon, it took me almost 4 hours to get from Simi Valley to Anaheim.

Yeah 33 years is a long time I'm not even that old. You might have visited L.A but you have never lived in L.A because traffic isn't always bad if you know what freeways and times to be out on them. Friday afternoon is the worst time to travel on the freeways so is Monday mornings. I'm sure Houston's traffic isn't very good either:lol:

Nope, and the freeways are in a constant mode of construction.....

But you are right. I'll take Houston over LA any day of the week and twice on Sundays. :D

Yeah construction on the freeways is always an issue. But with all those vehicles on them the wear and tear is huge. I use to commute from Laguna Beach to Manhattten Beach every sunday and never had a traffic problem unless a bad accident occured.

So you don't live in California now and I do and you are arguing with me on what traffic is like....why?

It's true that knowing the right routes is key. A friend of mine didn't follow my directions from LAX and followed <GASP> Hertz instead...he got to park on the freeway for a while.
