Well, as you may remember my i was planning to go to DL in the late May/ early June timeframe. That got scrapped for WDW, as we were more comfortable wtih the known, got 30% off our room, etc.. I'm back into looking at DL. We go back to WDW in Sept for a quick trip and are booked for our annual May/ June trip to WDW May 29, 2014-June 8, 2014. Looking at either around Oct. 22 time period for 6 days or in the later summer (July or Aug.) Any thoughts on preferred timeframe? We have never done a MNSSHP at any Disney park so I thought it might be fun to hit it at DL.

Welcome back.;)

Either time slot is good, but I'd go with October. Halloween is a lot fun at Disneyland. Just a warning, in case you don't know, the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain will have Halloween overlays. They won't be in their normal states. Space Mountain is essentially the same but Haunted Mansion is COMPLETELY different. We'll just call it the Nightmare Before Christmas ride.

Thanks for the info. I see problems at WDW but still love it. That being said, I still want to walk where Walt walked and go back to where it all started. I fear the wife is starting to think I'm nuts.

The good thing is WDW and the DLR are both Disney and they're not going anywhere. You shouldn't feel bad if you want to head back to WDW and skip the DLR or vice versa.:)

Like you, we are very comfortable at WDW (we have been AP holders for several years). We took a trip to DL last June, and we are heading there again in three weeks!! It was amazing. Its Disney, but different in so many good ways. We are actually renewing our APs in August to include both resorts for the next year. I really think you'll love it!!!

500,000,000 Disneyland fans can't be wrong.

Anyone who has any appreciation for Walt Disney and what he did for family entertainment in the 20th century will be utterly enchanted by a few days at the modern Disneyland Resort. And I vote for an October trip, so long as it includes a weekday or two to include a Halloween party, plus a Friday or Saturday night to catch the various water shows in both parks and fireworks.

The advantage to a July/August trip is that the schedule of entertainment and park hours are the same 7 days a week and the weather is dramatically better than the summer weather in Orlando. But October has more "Only at Disneyland" unique offerings.

650,000,000 already? I had heard the sign was edited upward beyond 500,000,000 a few years ago, but didn't know the numbers were going that fast. Must be that thing they built in the parking lot next door.

Be aware that if you plan on doing 6 days in the parks, you'll have to buy a single day ticket one day. They do not have an add a day feature and they don't sell a six day pass. Ridiculous but true. Otherwise, look at doing something else one day in the area.

Or, if you want to spend six days, you could concentrate all of your explorations of the non-theme-park parts of the Resort into one day. You could stretch it into a full day, depending on how much you wanted to spend on meals and how much shopping you wanted to do; it would also be good for a first or last day that was a partial one due to travel.

Be aware that MNSSHP is a lot more crowded at DL than WDW... The biggest upside at DL is that is usually cooler than WDW so if you decide to wear a costume you don't end up feeling like you are the Bataan death march... The overlays some are talking about are either loved or hated. Frankly my kids think they are bit stupid because they were never great fans of Nightmare Before Christmas... You might want to check and see what ride are scheduled for refurbs. In my experience DL seems to take more down in the off-season than WDW does and it can be a real bummer if they are taking down one that you are looking forward to.
