"Disneyland is FULL" - HUGE crowds 12/27/10

Al Lutz just put up this blurb on Miceage this afternoon, and it looks like Disneyland is a madhouse today...

"Editor's Note 12/27: Recent rains have played havoc with a historically over-crowded week for Disneyland. Today's sunshine and warmth have sent in-park attendance at Disneyland well over the 50K mark, and DCA is headed towards 25K inside the park this afternoon. Ticket sales were halted by mid-day and frustration levels are high. Total daily attendance for both parks combined on Monday could top the 100K mark, smashing a record, and it's miserable under those conditions. Try to plan your visit this week for a rainy day like Wednesday, when crowds will still be big but at least at safer levels. - Al Lutz"

When will people learn NOT to go to Disneyland the week between Christmas and New Years??? Especially on the day forecast to be the sunniest, warmest and driest of the week? :veryconfu

because people are stupid. Everyone thinks the same way. "Hey it's going to be really nice on Monday, and we're all out of school or off work, so lets go to Disneyland!"

I was talking to some guests yesterday and it's their tradition to come every year at this time. They love it, even with the crowds. I still think it's crazy, but hey, they can do what they want.

It was complete chaos yesterday. *shudder*

The 26th was actually pretty empty. It was nice.

Best Birthday Ever

You guys are obnoxious. I went there yesterday with my wife, son, and daughter for my daughter's 6th birthday. Yes it was chaotic, but we made the best of it. The bonding that occurs while waiting 2 hours to ride Space Mountain can't be reproduced. There's a much better story to tell about a record breaking crowd than a day of ride hopping. It's pretty incredible to stand on Main Street under the snow with 50K other people as we're reminded that we need to "keep believing". If I want to to run around ride hopping and rattling my brain I can go to Six Flags, but if I want a magical day with my daughter telling me "this is the best birthday ever" over and over again, I go to the Magic Kingdom on a record breaking day. Guess I'm just stupid like that. :hammer:

Some people think I'm crazy for liking Celebrate...A Street Party and I can't believe people would actually eat something as gross as a turkey leg. Some of us can enjoy a crowded Disneyland and others can't.

To each his own. Have a magical day.

It looks like it will be another busy day at the resort... Disneyland said the following via Twitter:

Disneyland Resort extremely popular today. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure access temporarily limited.
crowd control measures are already in place. OCRegister is reporting that ticket sales for DL were halted just two hours after park opening!

CNN is in on the story too. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/12/28/california.disneyland.overcrowding/index.html?hpt=Sbin

Funniest line I heard from SoCal radio station KFI AM 640 tonight from the newscaster covering the Disneyland closure story;

"Disneyland sold out of tickets at 10AM, although tickets were still available for California Adventure... because no one really likes to go there."

I laughed out loud. But I wonder if Disneyland will be advertising much on KFI after that crack?

Well, someone should let that newscaster know that DCA saw record crowds and they temporarily halted ticket sales for both parks!

That's insanity! And one of the reasons we never visit WDW when they're supposed to have crowds like this.

Went yesterday and it was EMPTY!!! (Comparatively speaking.) Between the storm that hit in the morning and all the press about how busy DL had been, it seems to have scared everyone away because I walked on to most rides from 4pm-close last night.

Nothing like a few rain showers yesterday to scare away the locals.

Just got back from an errand that took me past Disneyland this afternoon. The sun is out again today and the crowds are back. The "Disneyland Sold Out" signs are up again along the Resort streets and freeway offramps.

At least it's not just Disneyland. The ski resorts around Los Angeles have also sold out and stopped ticket sales this morning, with everyone headed to the slopes after yesterday's snowfall. Mountain High Ski Resort, about 90 minutes from LA, had to stop lift ticket sales after being open just 30 minutes this morning! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lan...=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+lanowblog+(L.A.+Now)

Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ski resorts are now also sold out of lift tickets today. Some might reopen sales for the night ski session tonight.

I think I would rather deal with epic crowds at Disneyland than the local ski resorts. Disneyland has a 16 lane superfreeway next to it and massive infrastructure to handle the huge crowds. The highways up into the local mountains and the parking at the ski resorts get jammed easily, and today must be an absolute nightmare up there. Although, the San Bernardino mountains do look amazingly gorgeous today looming behind Orange County with all that snow on them!
