August is the hottest month in Southern California. The humidity is nothing like Florida, but it's still too hot for my taste. But having said that, we went in October last time, and it was near 100 degrees or more everyday. We still had fun.

August is hot (by California standards) and sometimes there is an east wind (called the Santa Ana's) that makes things even warmer. Average temp is probably high 80's, but during a heat wave it could be warmer. There is almost never humidity though. It's what we call a dry heat.
There is no dead season, but August isn't too bad crowd wise. There are typically a lot of refurbs though. Count on HM being down as it converts to it's holiday overlay.

You may see an influx of the socal crowd as those annual passes are blocked out all summer until those last two weeks of August.
