Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier?

We are planning our first trip to Disneyland. Which do you recommend? Disneyland Hotel or Paradise pier. I've read information on both and there does not seem to be much difference, really. We will be at Disneyland more than CA, so I am leaning more towards DH, but need some input from those who have stayed at each.

I've stayed at both, and I agree with you that there is not a huge difference between the two. I found the rooms to be a little nicer at Paradise Pier, but that's just my own personal experience. Aside from that, I would say that DH might have a couple of slight edges. Monorail access is one, though I never personally have considered that a huge deciding factor. The other is the pool area...much cooler at DH. Of course, depending on what time of year you're planning to go (I don't believe you mentioned that in your post), that may or may not make much difference.

So essentially, my response probably doesn't help you much. But hopefully you can glean some info from it that you may find helpful.

For what it's worth, I would probably just stay at one of the Good Neighbor Resorts. They're considerably cheaper, almost as convenient in some cases, and generally not bad for the price.

I would stay at the Disneyland Hotel just because it's the Disneyland Hotel. I haven't been there in years and I've never stayed there. From looking at the pictures on the Disneyland website, the rooms at Paradise Pier look a little nicer, but I guess that's just personal preference. I agree with Merlin, though. In reality I'd stay in a Good Neighbour Hotel. I hear really good things about the Candy Cane Inn.

I've stayed at both. DL Hotel has a better pool and better restaurants and closer to the parks. PP if you get a theme park view is cool at night. It is a pretty long walk to the parks. I'd pick DL Hotel. For the price though it is better to stay off property. The Candy Cane Inn is really nice.

PP gives you a nicer view of DCA ... I like DH environment better ... PP is cheaper, which means more money for other vacation items .... so I say PP
