Probably going to theme it to add more Tiana type surroundings to tie in with the New Orleans setting featuring Beignets and Jazz performers.

Probably converting from long counters to kiosks as in other lobbies.
I think they did this with the last refurb several years ago… still more counter space than most recent refurbs though, I could see them going to desks like many of the others.

I love the current lobby, I’m hoping this is just a paint and polish.

Maybe I'm in a minority but I don't like the trend of eliminating/reducing the desks, and the CMs standing around in the lobby with ipads. It comes off tacky and like you're invading a space or something that they are guarding. It doesn't feel welcoming. I'd rather approach the desk if something is needed.

Most major hotel chains are moving to the smaller podiums rather than a solid barrier counter as they all think it is more personal to be able to connect with the person rather than having the barrier of the counter. That first pic above with the bank style windows is really imtimidating and not welcoming at all!
Personally I like a mix, make it open and spacious so you can see the staff and communicate at a normal volume rather than shouting across a huge counter, but make it clear where the desks are and who is available to assist you.
