Disney World is unsurprisingly determined to enforce mask wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic, but that has led it to some unusual experimentation with technology. Disney told in a statement that it stopped a recent practice of digitally placing masks on to the faces of theme park guests who are uncovered in ride photos. This was a test “in response to guest requests,” Disney said, although it didn’t explain why it began or stopped the practice.

Guests like Facebook user Tony Townsend recently noticed the practice for certain rides, including Dinosaur (above) and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Many believe the digital edits were meant to discourage riders from taking their masks off for the sake of a picture —people are theoretically less likely to endanger others if they know they’ll be seen wearing a mask regardless.

It’s unclear how Disney will enforce mask wearing on rides after this. It said it would “continue to expect” park attendees to wear masks any time they aren’t eating or drinking in a stationary position. Either way, it’s a rare instance of a company using image editing to enforce policies —we wouldn’t be surprised if others tried this, at least while the pandemic is still a major concern.

Yes, there is no sense faking reality and the fact that no matter how serious the situation or the desire to enforce what is best for everyone, they will not be able to be everyplace at the same time. Those pictures with a mixture of masked guests and unmasked will someday prove to be embarrassing to those that don't care how many people died from this virus. So purchasing one will be a big waste of money since it will be destroyed or packed in a box that no one ever opens.

I thought I had read on another site that Disney was not releasing the ride photos to anyone who rode if there was a person photographed riding not wearing a mask. Maybe there had been enough complaints from those who wanted their photos, so Disney tried adding in masks artificially so photos could be given out. Why penalize those who followed the rules by restricting their photos? By artificially adding in masks, it covers Disneys butt from the mask enforcing county officials by showing everyone is complying, but it isnt making anyone safer.

Unfortunately those non wearing masked guests wont have any embarrassment or guilt of passing anything onto others. They have no connection to those affected... they are complete strangers, dont know them, dont relate to them, so they have the "who cares about them" attitude. Once upon a time people were taught to care for others. Now its in most cases they grow up to be a me, me, me individual.

Sad, but true. It is society calling the shots and depending on one's individual beliefs. No amount of parental example or empathy matters. I have one daughter that says she cares about others but when tested, it becomes I am more important then they are. My other daughter cares to the point of sleepless nights. Both raised in the same environment, same parents, even the same food and water. But the two couldn't be more different in their personalities.

Hadn't thought of that, but it does make a lot of sense.

I grew up being friends with twin boys. All throughout their lives, one was the good twin, the other the evil one. Boy... was the evil one evil. Fortunately I was one of just a few kids who at a glance, could immediately tell one from the other because of one slight distinctive feature to one face. I lost touch with them as we grew up and move away, but I'm sure one probably became a Priest and the other a serial killer.
