Disney World Or Time Square????

Booked a trip for 12/30-1/6 to Disney World, it's a surprise for the kids (14 & 7). A little bit worried that the parks are going look like what Times Square looks like on New Years Eve!! We will not be going to MK for New Years Eve day, but we will probably go to AK during the day and hopefully ending up at Epcot. Never been to WDW during this time we have been during spring break and Easter holiday. Just can't get the vision of the people you see at Time Square on TV. I guess I shouldn't worry to much and just have fun!! Any advice ????

I went to Times Square once on New Years. Once. I have never been to WDW during that time, but I cannot imagine it would be that crowded. If they do close the parks they close in phases. If you are staying on property you should be fine.

Magic Kingdom also does there special fireworks Dec 30th so we go there and the 31st we start the day at Studios just because our DD likes the rides with shorter lines. I can't recommend where to be the eve of the 31st since we're usually at our offsite hotel packing to come to Disney the next day(my DH always flys down the 1st). But where ever you want to be that night I would start at that park and don't leave since most parks close to capacity even if your staying on property. Have fun!

Unless you get to Times Square early, you don't stand a chance of seeing anything, even with a good camera lens. The entire population of NY descends to an area of a few blocks.

We did Christmas and New Year in WDW (In MK at midnight) and it was PACKED. We were really worried about the crowd control (or lack of) and if there were an emergency, I hate to think what would happen in a panic. Near the time, it was so crowded, you had no choice to go where the crowd took you.

Of course, it was a good atmosphere - great in fact. But the sheer size of heaving crowd really put us off from attempting it again. Good to see once, but never twice.

As for Times Square, it's cheaper to go to WDW for two weeks than one week in NY.

Have been to both in the recent past. Most likely will be slightly warmer in WDW than in NYC and there are bathrooms handy in WDW, not so much in Times Square, although some people thought it was okay to relieve themselves in public in Times Square.

Have been to HS on New Year's Eve. We were packed in like sardines. Couldn't see anything, long lines for rides, food, shopping, everything. Never again.

The parks are jammed packed. Stay patient and make the best of it and you will have an awesome time. Don't pressure yourself to see every single thing because you will be miserable.

On NYE itself I'd plan on not doing much, but holding down a spot for fireworks as the day goes on. You should be able to get attractions and such done, but trying to plan/schedule it is darn near impossible. And after midnight, I'd plan on a few hours to get back to your hotel. The only exceptions would be if you were at MK and stayed at the Contemporary, or Epcot/DHS and stayed at BC/YC/Boardwalk/Swolphin and can walk home afterwards.

I have said this on other threads - look at the hard ticket events not in the parks for a much more enjoyable and less crowded NYE experience at WDW!

....we were at Epcot for NYE ....2009/2010. We got there at 10am on 12/31 ...and stayed till 1am 1/01. The park closed to new guests at 1pm.

...as far as "the crowd" ....picture standing in an elevator that is designed for 10 people ...and there are 14 people in there ...that's how crowded it was.

.....HOWEVER ...they did Illuminations at 9pm ...and I suppose that many parents told their kids that...THAT was the NYE fireworks ...because after that ...the crowd thinned out by about 10%.

Did EPCOT 2007/2008. Got to the park at 11 a.m. and NEVER managed to get on a single ride. It was not only crowded but there were some drunks (by nighttime) as the restuarants serve liquor. But it was pretty amazing to see ... the decorations in China and Italy were awesome. DHS was pretty quiet in 2008/2009 in comparison. 2009/2010 MK was crowded also, believe we watched the fireworks from the back of the castle, as it was a little less crowded.
