Disney World in January

I wanted to find out how the resort is like around the end of January?
I'm going to be coming back next year from the 22nd to the 28th. I would like to know what the basic hours usually are and if the crowds are really down since school's in session?

We usually go in late Jan/early Feb and Disney World is not crowded at all. The lines only get real big in the middle of the day. However, it can get pretty cold for Florida (it was 50 degrees one time) and all the parks have limited hours.

I have been the 3rd week of January and the crowds were very light - almost no waits except for the weekends. And even then I wouldn't say the lines were long.

Due to the light crowds the Parks hours are greatly reduced. It was back in 2002 so my memory might be a little hazy but I think the closing hour was MK 7:00, EP 9:00, MGM 6:00, and AK 5:00. MK ended the day with fireworks, Epcot ended with Illumination, and MGM ended with Fantasmic.

The weather is great during the day and a little cool in the evening.

We were there last January for the Builders show in Orlando and we loved the small crowds. We also got really lucky and had days in the mid to upper 70's!!. We were able to swim in the pool at Poly.

I don't have the hours anywhere, but I will caution that attendance is up recently so crowds may be a bit higher. We usually go around MLK and this year it was very crowded, but we did notice a decline in the crowds after MLK weekend; still heavier than before.

I tend to go late Jan/early Feb, crowds aren't bad, but recently have been picking up. Park hours are shorter and usually one or the other of the water parks are down for refurb. It is colder, don't bother taking many shorts. If it is warm enough during the day, it cools off pretty quickly at night.

I prefer the shorter hours and less hectic pace and would recommend it. I find I am still exhausted after a day at the parks and can guarantee I need the alarm to wake up in the morning. I don't think I'd survive the longer days in peak season :o

I went several years ago and it was great. Granted it was only months after Sept 11th but no lines whatsoever. What was really amazing was it was less busy in January then the week after Sept 11th when i went.
