I wasn't sure which forum to post this under.

I was looking into the disney vacation savings account. I have heard of deals that can be had with purchasing discount Target gift cards and then turning around and buying disney gift cards for a little bit of savings. Then loading them into the disney savings account.

I created a disney savings account and it will give you $20 back for every $1000 spent -- not a lot but any little bit helps. you can pay via debit card or through credit card. I have the Disney premier visa which gives me 2% back on Disney purchases -- does anyone know if my payments into the Disney savings via my Disney visa would give me 2% back?

It is tough because the purchases are not itemized, as far as I can tell, as to what percentage back I am receiving.

to purchase the Target Gift cards and save 5% you must use a Target Red Card which can be linked to your bank account and used as your debit card there. You will get strange looks when you purchase gift cards in bulk (I know I funded my 2 week Disney Christmas trip this year through Target Gift Cards then placed them in the DVA.) Remember the funds must sit there a minimum of 120 days before they are applied to your vacation to qualify for the $20.00 for every $1,000.00 transferred over. Booked in Feb, DVA opened in feb with tax return funds, Transfered and paid off in June. Waiting game until the trip.

Just to clarify only your account has to be open 120 days to qualify for the $20 rebates. You don't have to have any money in the account the first 120 days if you don't want to or can't etc. So no funds have to sit 120 days. Only the account has to be open 120 days. The only qualifier is just for the account to be open for 120 days regardless of having any funds in there before you spend money out of the account.
I know this because I called and asked and also tried it myself. I put my money in much later than I opened the account and still was eligible and received my $20 bonuses after I spent out of the account after 120 days. Most of my money only sat in the account about a month (close to making my 120 days) before I spent all of it and then qualified for my $60.
Also I had spent a small amount of money before 120 days that of course did not go towards the bonuses, but did not hurt qualifying for be bonuses with money I spent after the 120 days.
Hope this all made sense. Bottom line regardless of money in the account prior to 120 or not...whatever you spend after 120 goes towards the bonuses. I received $60 bucks so far with spending on my extras eventhough I am a DVC member and don't need it to pay for my room etc. :)

I just finished paying off my DL vacation and used all things discussed so I will share the details.

I put $2000 into a Disney Vacation account using a combination of Disney Gift Cards bought at Target and transfers from my Disney Chase Visa. I got the 5% off of every Disney Gift Card I purchased using the Target Red Card. When depositing from the Disney Visa you do get the 2% rewards however it does not count as a Disney Vacation purchase where you get the 6 month grace period of 0% interest. You need to decide would you rather get the interest free grace period or the $20 for every $1000 you put into your Disney Vacation Account. I did a combination of both. I used my Disney Visa to bring my Disney Vacation account up to $2000 and then paid off the remainder of the vacation with the Visa directly.
Once you use all the money in your Disney Vacation Account then you request your bonus through the web site. I requested mine two weeks ago and yesterday I got an email that my bonus Gift Card of $40 has been shipped.
All in all, by using all of these combinations and my Disney Visa for all Groceries and Eating out for one year I have saved about $800 in the forms of Gift Cards and %'s off.
Oh and if you are flying Southwest don't forget to pick up Gift Cards for southwest during 4X fuel points at the grocery stores. And since it's a grocery store use the Disney Visa to get your extra 2% Disney reward dollars. Fill up two cars at the same time to take full advantage of the fuel points.

I should also add that I purchased my Disneyland vacation through Costco and did not have any problems using my Disney Vacation account funds through them. Costco was offering the same offer that you could get through Disney but in addition I got an $80 Disney Gift Card and a Character Meal voucher good for any character meal for all persons in my party plus some other little things like pins and lanyards. I know Costco does not usually take Visa (American Express only) but for a Disney Vacation it was no problem to use my Disney Visa. I think when you call you are actually redirected directly to Disney and then Disney gives you a Costco member package deal. I don't think Costco would have told me to have a Magical Day at the end of the call.

Actually, you can tell how much rewards you get on every purchase. Online there is a little "+" next to every purchase, you can click on it to expand it and it will give you the details of the rewards. Whether you are getting 1% or 2% and the total rewards for each purchase. Took me awhile to find it too, but it's there.
