Disney Twenty-three - is it worth it $40/year?

I'm thinking (again) about joining D23, since there is currently a 10% discount available. For those of you who don't know, there are two levels of membership, Gold and Silver. The only difference between them that I can see is that Gold includes a subscription to Disney Twenty-Three magazine, which is a quarterly publication. The difference in cost is $40 (between Gold: $75 and Silver: $35). Is the magazine good enough (quality of articles, information, and photos) to justify this?

I joined the first year and didn't think it was worth continuing. The whole thing was very disappointing. I don't know what the magazine is like now, though. I won't pay for it. If they sent it to me for free, I don't know if I'd read it.
Do they just send invites to special events that you then have to pay for, or what? I contemplated joining but if there aren't really any perks, then, meh.

The events are posted on the D23 site. The majority of them are in California, though.

I joined the first year and I think it's worth it... Then again I live in California. I have the gold membership.

I find being a Passholder a better deal than being a D23 member as I considered not rejoining..And if I want to get the Magazine I can just go to Barnes & Noble and get it.

I was given the membership/magazine as a Christmas gift. I do enjoy the magazine. They have some really great in depth articles. The photos and artwork are amazing. I keep pondering would I pay the price myself though and that is still up in the air. All if not most of the events are in CA. I haven't been able to find a really good discount to be able to take advantage of. So I haven't been able to find any other value other than the magazine as of yet.

Disney Movie Rewards members also get a discount for D23 membership. Or at least it was offered last month when I was updating some new movie purchases. Yeah I almost purchased but didn't see a true value in what they offered at the current time.

To answer your question, no I don't think it's worth it at all. Like others have said, if you don't live in California then you get no benefits from it. Also if you want to pickup an issue just go to Barnes and Noble and buy it there. The magazine itself is nice to look at but not every issue is worth reading.

And there is the rub. I always wondered how many people got caught up in the big 23 mystery, in the way they rolled out and built suspense into D23. Wonder what percentage of the charter 23's are still 23's.

For those with the ability to go to Cali and participate it is a good value, the rest, thinking not so much.

I'm a Charter D23 member. I joined for the magazine, which otherwise can only be purchased at Barnes & Noble [which doesn't exist here in Ottawa]. I've been to a few events. I'll be going to the Expo this summer.

Worth is in the eye of the beholder. I think it's worth it for me, others wouldn't.

I was thinking of joining since I live in Florida. Glad i saw this thread and found out most things are on Calif.!
Most, but by no means all. I've been to a few D23 events in WDW. Cali has archives tours and other stuff that can only happen there, but they do stuff at WDW too. There are also events run in various cities around the USA. They haven't come to Canada yet though! :(

Let's pray the Expo isn't as bad as 2011's. Did you go? I went and after an hour, I left. Total madhouse.

What is D23 anyway? Not the press event, I mean what does the subscription give you? I've been considering it.
