I just got back from my first trip to WDW where I stayed off-property. Yes I have been spoiled. My aunt bought into OKW when it first opened and between those points, additional points my wife and I have purchased, and the occasional AP discounted room I have always been able to stay at a WDW resort.
This time my wife had a backlog of Marriott points so we decided to do a long weekend at the Fairfield Inn literally two blocks from the WDW entrance by the Downtown Disney Hotels. It was a nice place and being so close it was almost like being on property, but I was struck by how much I missed Disney Transportation.
I've read many people boast they've never been on a Disney bus and never will. Well, they are missing out. I love getting on a bus and sitting, listening to Disney music and being dropped off at the gate of my chosen park. When I had to drive I had to negotiate the maze of roads, wait in line at the parking lot entrance, walk to a tram stop, wait for a tram, wait for tons of people to load the tram, and then finally get dropped off no where near the gate. At MK you have to wait in another line for the monorail or the boat.
If you leave during the crush after closing the process is even worse in reverse and then you have to negotiate the maze of roads with a throng of tired irritated drivers.
I will never mind having to wait for a second or third bus after the fireworks ever again.
Disney Transportation is now one of my favorite perks of staying at a WDW resort.
