DisneyHand will focus on four things considered necessary for children to flourish:
· Connecting with adults, through things such as parent workshops, mentoring, teen town hall meetings and family volunteering;
· Use of free time, such as providing middle school children with after-school activities like sports, music, arts and clubs;
· Character development through programs that instill the value of honesty, responsibility, diversity, respect and social engagement, in addition to drug awareness, conflict resolution training and literacy;
· Compassion. Disney will support this by providing the opportunity to fulfill dreams for children and their families who are experiencing hardships such as health problems.
Last year Walt Disney World community support was more than $16 million in cash and in-kind donations. The company's employees also contributed more than 120,000 volunteer hours.
