A co-worker of my husband's, who is also a Disney fanatic, step-mother works at the Disney Store in my hometown and had said that the Disney Store was going to close, but, today he told me that she said it was not going to close afterall!! My mom and siser were at a mall where the Disney Store was already closed so I don't know if just some are staying open, some closing etc. Does anyone else know anything about this hopefully good news and if so will they go back to selling a wider variety of items and PINS!!!

Just got back from the newly re-opened Disney store in KC.

It is twice as big, but there really isn't much merchandise that is different.

At least 50% of the merchandise is for girls 2-10 years old--mostly princess costumes. (Yes, I realize Halloween is the next holiday, but I suspect that not much will change in November)

There are about 12 styles of shirts for adults.

No snowglobes, no housewares, no watches---and I didn't see the Park Hopper kiosk.

OK--truth is that I got out of there in a big hurry. There was a 2 year old who was absolutely TERRIFIED of the giant (at least 12 feet tall) Mickey sitting on a giant chair in the front. I did not stay long enough to see if he was wearing pull-ups or not.........

His mother refused to leave the store, even though there seemed to be a grandmother there also. I couldn't help but think: "This family should not go to WDW in the near future. That kid is not ready."

Some were closing, are closed, or will close.

The remaining stores were put up for sale. As of yet, there has been no information made public of a potential buyer stepping forward.

If none steps forward, Disney has made it fairly clear that they may get out of the business all together.

As far as changing merchandise in the stores goes I wouldnt expect anything major.

We have two Disney store in my area. We have one at Monroeville Mall, and one at Westmoreland Mall.

The one at Monroeville Mall will be closing shortly, and you sure can tell! Half of their shelfs are empty, and the other half that actually have stuff on it... is stuff that I have never saw before, such as Mrs.Pott's rugs, and other weird stuff.

The weird thing is that the Disney Store in Monroeville is much larger than the one at Westmoreland. I am currently employed at the Disney Store in the Westmoreland Mall, and from the answers I have gotton from my boss's.. is that our store isn't going anywhere. It is actually one of the areas best selling stores. You would never think that though. Our store size is SMALL.

My mom works at a disney store in the philadelphia/New jersey area...and apparently the stores are supposed to be brining back infant clothing and adult wear!!!!!!!

Yup, shes right! Finally.... as MSU said.. stores now have about 95% of young kids stuff.. our store has got some adult stuff in.. but we should be getting some more in within the next few months.

Yep.....I was recently at the Disney Store in Plymouth Meeting, PA and was told by a cast member that adult clothing, mugs, etc would be back in the store this fall or winter!!!! Who is the idiot(s) who have been in charge of the stores' "direction"?? FOOLS! Glad that they have realized ther mistake.

I know of people that have recently been promoted in the Disney Stores, and they are updating some stores in the chain, and Andy Mooney is bringing back adult and infant kubes so that the Disney Store is not just a Princess and Buzz store, which I think was a disastrous move. Hopefully the changes will bring the Disney fans back in to the stores in time to save the chain......

I was also told recently by the manager of our local Disney Store (Chesterfield Towne Center in the Southside suburbs of Richmond) that they were getting more adult stuff back this fall.

I think this is great. They needed to realize that Disney Stores were more for the fans and less for kids. Kid stuff was better suited for Wal-Mart. But people would seek out Disney Stores for the unique, nicer merchandise.

You should also be able to find "Disney Treasures" there (the new book being published of reproductions of cool stuff like e-tickets), but so far they haven't gone that far....

But, anyway, maybe they will see the light and bring the cool stuff back.... the reason people shopped there in the first place.

And as for this idea that WDW should run them... GOOD IDEA! 'Cause some of the coolest, most unique Disney merchandise is found there. I know that their buyers would do well running the stores, maybe even having more location-unique stuff like the Disney Store in NY does (it has Mickey and Minnie at the Statue of Liberty, Broadway-styled LK stuff, etc.)....

Anyway....

I'm beginning to think the threats to close or sell the entire chain were actually a sneaky ploy to revive interest in the Disney Store. Traffic has been way up since everyone found out we might be going away...

I am hoping the stores will stay open, but I am afraid that we will wake up one day and the stores will be shut... I tend to read between the lines, looking for clues as to their intentions for the stores....for example.... the last day to pick up the presales for Nemo and Lion King are only 3 days apart, Feb 4 and Feb 7...... I am wondering if there is some significance to having both these pick up dates ending in February, within 3 days of each other, instead of staggering the dates like they usually do.........so in my fertile imagination I am wondering if this is some sort of cut off date, like is this when they will officially announce the fate of the Disney stores?
