Disney stores not selling DVD's and Cd's

I was in my local Disney store last Friday. I noticed the lack of movies and Cd's. So.. I asked what's up? The manager explained that their store is a test market to determine whether Disney Stores should continue selling movies.

It's so aggravating. I enjoy going and sorting through the new cd's. I also often buy movies there. Hopefully, this won't last very long.

This particular test is just one of the many tests TCP is running across America right now. Other tests include bringing back pins to the stores, scrapbooking supplies, and expanded adult lines.

I don't see the movies going anywhere... they are too important to our sales figures. For instance, with Cinderella... when a guest preordered it, we not only got the $20.00 for the DVD, but when pre-purchased, we gave guests a bounceback coupon for 15% off a purchase on the day they picked up their DVD, guaranteeing us more income on street day and the following week.

The test I believe is over within the next week or two... they'll be back... just probably in smaller numbers. They aren't hot sellers... but they definately dont hurt us (as the stupid Witch product and Disney Cuties product does).

The Disney Store doesn't sell hardly anything anymore...

I'd like to see jewelry, kitchen & housewares, adult clothing, etc return.

I gave up going to Disney stores since they stopped stocking things for us big kids.

I was in The Disney Store in The Trafford Centre (Manchester) yesterday - its virtually all Princess clothes and soft toys.
A most disappointing visit

Your's isn't the only one. I used to look forward to visits, but now there's really not much to bring me in.

They are being phased out. As a former store cm, I have heard this from a couple of my friends who are still there.

I never bought DVDs at the Disney Store anyways... it's always cheaper to buy them at Best Buy.

What I really miss is the jewelry... but they haven't sold that in years because of big problems with shrink in that area. :(

The Disney Store, alas, needs to be THE DISNEY STORE!! The place where we know the hard-to-find or unique and specialty Disney products, including catalog DVDs and collectible merchandise and clothes (like ties and adult T's), can be found.

They are losing ground because they have stopped focusing on their core market: the Disney fan. This is different than the product mix that is aimed at the casual shopper in Wal-Mart.

The sooner they learn this (and remember what built them successfully in the first place), the sooner that they will recover profit margins. They need to be a "destination store" again. With or without "The Children's Place."

I agree prberk, I use to stop at the Disney Store every time I went to the many malls in the Wash.D.C. area. Not only have many of them closed, all they have is the little kids stuff.

I would buy my girlfriend Pooh stuff for every holiday..sometimes big $$$, now I dont think I have spent $20 in the past 2 years. I just dont even go in the stores any longer.

Although I have been to WDW 5 times in the past 12 months! So I'm sure I have spent my fair share at the parks!

At least you guys have them up there at the UK. I'd love to have a place to shop for Disney stuff that I knew wasn't bootleg. I mean clothes and stuff like that. For toys, movies and CDs, if you go to the right stores, you'll find the proper things.

It may not be bootleg, but it's all naff - princess outfits, plush and cheap crappy plastic toys. All the quality products and adult clothing vanished years ago.

Actually the Disney Store that was near where I work closed a few months ago, but the one at an out of town shopping centre is still open.

...look for an expanded line of adult merchandise next Spring as a test that TCP wants to try. They are really interested in bringing back adult merchandise into the stores...

For the holiday, you won't really find anything except t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, some sleepwear, and of course the globes and mugs.
