not sure which board this would go under so i posted it here.
went to my local disney store in ft myers,fla.
had a great conversation with the store manager and i asked lots of questions about whats the future of disney store.
a- she confirmed the closing of 50 more low performing stores when their lease runs out.as of now the only one in fla to be closed is one in tampa due to the saturation of disney stores in that area. the disney store will stabalize at about 400 stores in the us and canada.they will keep open all 112 stores in europe and the stores in hong kong and other asia pacific stores will stay open as well.the stores in japan will be sold to olc and disney store will get royalties on sales. this will leave a total of around 550 stores worldwide.
b-they will ,once they close the slower stores ,continue with the new redesign like in cherry hill and costa mesa.how they have planned as of now is when a store reaches their 10 year anniversary they will be redone.my local store is slated for remodel in2006.
c-if u havent been to disney store lately the have changed the uniform from shorts and sweater to a denim button down shirt with black pants.(this happened a while ago)
d-the store had a lot more adult clothes-t-shirts,sweatshirts,and polos.they are even bringing back for this store anyway-TIES,PENS,AND BRIEFCASES AND OTHER BUSINESS related items like they used to have.a lot of people emailed and wrote and called disney and complained and demanded the adult oriented products back-AND THEY LISTENED!!!!!!!
E-the store was very busy and there was lots of clearance left over x-mas merchandise for sale.
f-the company will focus on pushing toy story items with a huge display of buz lightyear toys along with disney princess items too will be the center of attention.and again more adult products will come in. the manager said disney store realized their mistake for taking all adult items out of the store and plan on fixing it.
g-this was cool for me because im a retail manager-she let me go backstage and it was sooooooo clean and extremely organized!
you could have eaten off the floor and normally retail store backrooms are a disaster.
h-all the cast members were really cheerful and anxious to help the guests. i even asked her what her feelings were about disney.she answered she worked for other companies like the gap,jc pennys, and burdines(a fla store) and she said disney by far is the best place she has worked.
i also asked her about someones reference in here about being forced to work off the clock and she said that is 100% against disney policy and anyone who asks a cast member to work off the clock can and will be terminated.she said that is as bad as stealing in the company's eyes(and ears).
