I’m taking me and my three kiddos next October. Worth it to stay in Disney Springs? Or what is the closest hotel? I’ve never been before and I’m overwhelmed already lol

Disney Springs is WDW's shopping/dining/entertainment area - there are no hotels within Disney Springs itself. The nearest hotel to the Disney Springs is Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa which across the lake. It is a vacation club resort but you can still stay there even if you are not a vacation club member. It is an easy walk or short boat ride to Disney Springs.

Definitely not a walkable thing sounds like. Ok great thank you so much!

There are many hotels walkable to Disney Springs right in that area... There is a Hilton literally across the street... The Disney Springs Resort Hotels are not "Disney " Hotels, but some like the Hilton for example, get all the same Disney perks and Amenities as the Disney hotels. All Disney Springs Resort area hotels also have full shuttle service to all of the parks... If you are planning on staying near Disney Springs, I would recommend you NOT stay at Saratoga Springs and instead choose the Hilton, Waldorf Astoria or even the Holiday Inn Disney Springs... They are a much better value and WAY more convenient than Saratoga Springs....Which is convenient to nothing.

Thank you for the advice! It sure is difficult to kind of place things where they are without having been there. I figure a lot of trial and error on this first trip :)

To each their own I suppose but you are absolutely incorrect that Saratoga Springs is convenient to nothing. Staying in the Congress Park section, it is a quite easy and enjoyable walk to Disney Springs. True, it can be a longer bus ride to the parks but certainly no longer than any of the Disney Springs resorts. We find Saratoga Springs very enjoyable and relaxed place to stay.

Saratoga Springs and some of the Disney Spring resorts are actually quite an easy walk to Disney Springs. The walk from the Disney Springs resorts are on a sidewalk along a busy road and you will have to cross a bridge or two but is quite safe. Since the bridge was added from Saratoga Springs, it is a very pleasant walk. Also, if you do not feel like making the walk, there is a boat that runs between Saratoga Springs and Disney Springs.

No

Its just a shopping/dining/etertainment area.

I do recommend staying onsite at a Disney resort.
Depending on your budget for value resorts I'd recommend Pop Century or All Star Movies, for moderate Port Orleans Riverside, and deluxe I've only stayed at Contemporary but I would recommend.

I'm a little confused by this. First, the Waldorf Astoria is at the Bonnet Creek area, not Disney Springs area, and Saratoga Springs is the closest of all to Disney Springs. You can get to Disney Springs from Saratoga Springs by walking, boat or bus (or driving if you so choose). How is that not convenient?
When you stayed there, were you way back in the back of Saratoga Springs? Even if so, that only adds about 10 minutes to the walk.
We find the grounds there beautifully landscaped and that makes for a lovely walk over to DS, without walking alongside the traffic of Hotel Plaza Blvd.

So, I am a stickler for saving money, so my advice would be to save you money for souvenirs for the kiddos!
October is a good time to go according to undercovertourist.com crowd calendar...
October 1-9, 12-16,18-23,25-30 crowds are Average 4/5/6 out of 10
You will also have access to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, I would use that as your Magic Kingdom day(s)...the kids would love it! Make sure you catch the BOO! to you parade that begins with The Headless Horseman galloping down the parade route.
Depending on where you are in the US, for traveling with 1 adult and 3 kids, you may want to check out AMTRAK as an alternative to flying! It may be a little cheaper and the kids will love riding on a train!
Since I am very PRACTICAL with plans, when I plan a hotel, I see it as a place to sleep and shower, therefore I stay off property at a 3 STAR hotel. Disney's VALUE resorts really aren't value when you are paying over $100/night! I would suggest The Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista(clarionlbv.com), utilizing undercovertourist.com for discounted tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars its alot cheaper than going to the hotel site. When searching for hotels, do a search for ROSEN in the search bar. That will pull up some great hotels for about $60/night. Stay with Rosen or Clarion Lake Buena Vista, which is a Rosen hotel too, and all the rooms are exactly the same in the moderate hotels!!!!

Hope this helps!

It does so much! My kids are with their dad this weekend so I’m going to really lock down some ideas that I’ve been planning and hoping to do. Or at least narrow down my list some

I forgot to mention that The Clarion is within walking distance. Its just outside the Hotel Plaza gate...could be 15-30 minute walk to Disney Springs...AND CHEAPER!;)

I did a little searching...AMTRAK would be out of the question. They have you traveling to Washington DC, then to Kissimmee! Your next inexpensive travel is CAR! You are only 8-10 hours away...I would travel that short distance! I would travel overnight and maybe the kids will sleep on the way down and then wake up at the hotel!

@yensid67 I read elsewhere that the OP’s children are 6,5 and 2....much too young to make a 15-30 minute walk from the Clarion to Disney Springs. Staying offsite is really only feasible if she has a car. Since she is from Georgia, I’m assuming she will drive her own vehicle as that is the least expensive option. But since she is unfamiliar with the scope and SIZE of Walt Disney World, I think we should be cautious with our recommendations for her.

It will be a challenge to maneuver three young kids by herself. For ease and convenience, staying onsite in a Value resort would be worth every penny at the end of the day for her.

Some shots from Saratoga Springs looking towards Disney Springs in August of 2017. Can't get more convenient that this.

Google Map the area. You can go down to street view and "walk" the paths to give you and idea how far things are. Very easy. If you are not staying on WDW property, then you will need transportation to and from the parks. It is one thing to walk a couple of blocks to Disney Springs, but how are you going to get to the parks. There are no buses that go from Disney Springs to the parks.

But there are buses from SSR and the Hilton. And a bus to the Contemp, Beach Club, and Boardwalk.

Yes, SSR is a Disney resort. The buses from the other resorts in that area that are not Disney resorts are not very convenient. They usually come at a set time, and do not run very late. That means a lot more planning and hassle. That is something that someone travelling with very small kids does not need. I would take my kids solo when they were that young and stayed on property for the convenience. It makes a huge difference. Unless you are planning on driving to the parks. But don't forget to factor in parking fees at the parks when planning a trip and pricing things out. It always came out to be cheaper and more convenient to stay on property for us. Anyone travelling with very young kids should really take the time to plan out how you are getting places, etc. It is much harder then just a couple of adults. Making numerous stops eats up a lot of time.
