Disney Resort Guest + Resort restaurant reservations

I remember when planning our trip in 2022 Disney was reserving some seating at resort-based restaurants for resort guests. Originally, I thought this was only for folks who were staying at that specific resort, ex. being if you want a better chance at getting Topolino's for dinner, you should stay at Riviera.

Reading this, it seems that it's available for anyone staying at any resort and doesn't need to be the 'home' resort. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm thinking of staying at Contemporary on 12/8 (before we move to AKL on 12/9 as part of free dining promo) in order to increase my chances of getting a 8 PM Resy at California Grill, but would prefer to save a good amount of coin and do FQ instead :)

So, I chatted with Disney and they stated it's for walk up only. I challenged that a bit because there is no mention of that on the FAQ page. Called them and CS lady stated that it's for people who are staying at that specific resort, but it would need to be done through the concierge of the hotel, which there is also no mention of that.

So confusing.

I even posted in a FB group and the answers are still split:

1. Increased walk-up only availability (but that's not technically a reservation?)
2. You must stay at that specific resort.
3. You must stay at any Disney resort.

I think it was back when travel started up again and restaurants had reduced capacity.

I doubt it’s still happening. I mean, Concierge at any resort can book dining for you but I don’t think they have reserved tables available only to them.

Finally found some type of article that references this, and I swear WDWMagic had one too:

Edit: Previous thread: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/small-adr-perk-for-resort-guests.979280/

Though it appears in the other thread, there was still no direct answer if you *had* to stay at the specific resort or if it was any resort, but it was deduced that it can be any resort.
