Disney resort and tickets question

Question for the Disney experts out there......

Let me preface this by saying, it's just me and my wife, and we only do the 4 parks....no water parks, no DTD.

As a Disney resort guest....is there any benefit to have the Ultimate park hopper passes? For example, regardless of price of the room is there any difference whether we have an ultimate park hopper or if we purchase a regular park hopper ourselves???

I know when it's included in your package, your room key becomes your park ticket....this would obviously be different. If we brought our own tickets.....would we still be able to use the resort key to charge things?

We would still get all the benefits of being a resort guest correct?

Here's the answer you want to hear.

There is no advantage to having a UPH over a hopper if you aren't going to DTD or the water parks.

Yes, you will have to carry 2 cards, your park admission and your room key.

Yes, you will be able to charge on your room key on whatever credit card you leave on file at the hotel.

IMHO, UPH are not necessarily the best deal, unless they are part of an awesome package. Because of flight schedules, we often arrive late, or have to leave early, and don't get our "money's worth" out of those days on the UPH. (yeah--I know you can get them taken off....) I your plane leaves Orlando at 10 AM, you won't get in any park time that day--and your UPH is good until midnight.

I think there is still an "advance purchase" discount on hoppers--you might double check that on the Disney website (too lazy to do it myself!! ). I think I would get the hoppers before I leave to take advantage of the discount (and spread out the spending!)

We are trying to figure out our trip in Septmeber and might be able to get some good rates because our friends are cast members.
