Hello everyone, I really don't believe this , so i am putting it here in the "Rumors".
A co-worker of my DH is looking to buy a house in the Katy area, and the realtor told them they need to buy soon as property values are rising, due to Disney buying property in the Katy area. Personally I think this is a ploy to get them to rush into buying the house.
Has anyone here heard any wiff of this???
Thanks!

I'm actually from Katy and this would be news to everyone there..it's more than likely a ploy by the realtor. That rumor has been going around in Katy FOREVER.

I have a family friend who's father in law is on the city council in Burleson,Tx which is about 30-45 min south of Ft. Worth and he recently told me that Disney bought some land south of burleson. I was sceptical at first, but I later found out that the city council had to approve the buy because Disney bought a lot of land from the city and some land from another small town had to be incorporated into that buy. I don't remember the acreage off the top of my head, but it is enough to build a park and all the other good stuff. I know that Disney at some point in the 90's was wanting to put a theme park in the central US region, but they put it on the back burner or threw it out the window. Maybe they are keeping their options open.

Yeah, it's very possible they bought land in Katy (a lot of rice fields)..the rumor in Katy is if Disney plans to actually use the land for anything. I remember 5 or 6 years ago everyone going crazy b/c it was announced they were building a park here.
I'd love to have a Disney park in Texas! That would definitely cut out on traveling expenses!

Yeah I currently live in Katy also and this rumor has being going around forever. Don't beleive your realtor (And if you don't mind me asking, who are you using?) as nothing has ever materialized of this. Ever since the Mall went up, rumors have been flying like crazy.

It's just another Texas tall tale. You can't really believe anything that comes out of Texas, the entire world knows that in spades!

Disney (like most large companies) often buy land all over the USA as investments, it doesnt mean they will build, or even use it for themselves.

It could also be a measure to make sure they have land if they ever want to build another park in the US. They can hold on to the land for a long time, and if they do not want to use the land, they can always sell it and make alot of money off it.
