Disney pulls Black Panther from local theatres. Anyone know why?

Our local drive-in scheduled to show Black Panther this weekend in memory of Chadwick Boseman, with a portion of proceeds to benefit colon cancer research; but Disney pulled the plug today on theatrical exhibition of the film anywhere, according to the drive-in and the news.

I can’t understand why they would pull it in the first place, but especially after they had made a contract. Here is the news story:

Disney could try to re-release Black Panther on Disney+ ...

OR they are afraid of being used as a rallying cry for pro/anti movements which could clash at a showing of their film.

I don’t think it would be that. They just showed it on ABC Sunday night.

Or a temporary moratorium on second run showings (mostly festivals and college formats...but this would fit) for say two weeks?

...that could drive some D+ subscriptions.

Maybe they are planning on a theatrical re-release.

Its already on Disney+ so not sure how they'd re-release it.

They probably have plenty of unused scenes to add to a commemorative cut. Then release it on D+ for $29.99.

Disney will not miss an opportunity to make money off this new publicity.
