Has anyone had any luck buying Official Pins cheap to trade while at WDW?

This site looks official but you never know.'

Just been using Ebay and checking into the Seller. I have been getting pins in "lots" for about 2.50/pin after shipping and sometimes less.

I've gotten pins at the Disney Outlets and from ebay for decent prices.
I've never heard of the site you mentioned, but I haven't really looked around either.

It looks like it may have an EBAY store associated with the link. . .

We have official Disney pins for $1.99 each. These pins are all Disney copyright pins that you can trade at the parks or add to your collection .
We always have pins available on eBay and because our inventory changes every week the most convienent way for us to show you what we have availble for purchase is to direct you to our eBay Store. Pins can be purchased from eBay or direclty from us.

Just happened to be checking in with our local Disney Store. The have a Winnie the Pooh set (4 characters in scarves) for $14.50. According to the store, these pins can be traded at WDW. In addition, they had some Princess Pins in a 3 pack for $14.50. These are also tradable per the store.

Question, are Disney Store pins tradable? Do they have to be traded as a set? The unoffical guide mentiones something about pin sets and trading.

Maybe a CM can weigh in on these as well.

Thanks

As long as they are the cloisonnes pins (enamel with the Disney logo) they are tradeable . Sets should be traded as such, but I'm not sure if these actually qualify as a set, but are just themed pins packaged together.

Lil'Mermaid has a set from the WL that is in a hinged box that has to stay together. I've seen the pins you are talking about (I believe) and they are on a cardboard backing in a plastic cover...these can be broken up and traded separately.

Those are the ones, Mad (HAPPY B-DAY).

Yes they have the DisneyStore logo on the back and are enamel. The prrincess ones are a bit different. They are set up to look like a mirror. I believe they are enamel as well but the arework looks more like a picture (for the mirror effect I'm sure). Either way, 7 pins for $29 bucks is not too bad, I think. A little over $4 a pop.

Just be very careful with these "bulk" pins if you intend to trade with other pin traders. You have no guarantee that these are either authentic, or scrapers, the latter being unauthorized production of Disney pins beyond what Disney has ordered and sold through other channels.

A number of scraper pins can be detected by knowledgeable pin traders (I carry a small magnifying glass with me some time when doing pin trading with other guests to check for "marks" that I can remember). This is especially true if they are cast lanyard pins, which are notorious for often being scrapers. I've had someone on time wanting to trade with me a set of cast lanyard pins from Disneyland that wasn't even released yet!

My suggestion would be to go to Dizpins and look at all the known scrapers. The list is updated continually as more known scrapers are found. Sometime, it is just a strong "kerosene" smell that gives it away (legal Disney pins that you buy do not have this odor). But in many cases, you just can't tell because they have identical markings.

So just know what you might be getting.

There is also a Fab Five Christmas set, five pins for $14.50. I've traded pins from this set and the Pooh set at the parks without any problems. They don't have to be traded as a set. :)

Would these be sold at a Disney Store? I have seen the section on scrappers and the ones he described (and I have bought and traded) and not packaged in the same manner. They are in plastic, but heat sealed with the Disney Store topper on the package. They are the cloisonnes with the proper markings on the back.

Yes, they did not have any of those left. That would have been nice. Good to know they traded okay.

Thanks to all for participating, you can pick up your fee on the way out.

No. Disney Store pins are different than the ones sold at the theme parks. They are exclusively Disney Store pins.

Scrapers are the same ones you get at the parks. The ones that can be spotted usually have mistakes, errors, and wrong colors, etc. on them. Others are identical to the ones sold at the parks.

The rule of thumb here is that if you buy them from authorized Disney sources, such as theme parks, Disney Shopping, Disney Stores, etc, then these are legitimate Disney pins. If you buy them on ebay or some other websites, then there's no guarantee.
