Disney Pins.

To start with, I KNOW there is a pin trading section. I opted to post here because when I checked they have not had a post since June 5th.

I just have a few questions though that if a few people could give their opinions on, i would really appreciate it.

I bought a few pins last year, maybe like 6. I love the things and keep them at home where everyoen can see them on their lanyard. My question is, do I bring the same pins back to WDW this time around??? Do I change the black mickey ears on the back to some of the locking ones so they are more secure on rides?? (I haven't lost one yet thoguh).

How do you keep them displayed at home?

and lastly,

what are the PINS TO GET this year in 07??

thanks!

I keep my pins in a pin book. My kids display theirs on cork boards and my husband has his on his lanyard (we don't have huge collections).

We have had several fall off lanyards (found them, thank goodness). I would defiantly recommend using the locking backs if you are going to wear them into the parks (except for ones you'll be trading, if any).

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your last question. Hopefully someone with the answer will come along shortly.

What to get this year totally depends on your style. Do you have a favorite character, resort, park, etc? Collect all of the ones that center around your favorites. Or just pick out some you like and have a broad selection.

As for the backs, I put clear nail polish on the backs then put the pins in the backs to keep the pins secure. This last trip I bought the boys the little pin pouches, so now I'm not so worried about them losing their favorite pin on a ride.

That's a great idea Heidi!

I only have about 15-20 pins, as does my husband. We have been keeping them on our lanyards, because we have some really nice ones that are great conversation pieces. We put the locking backs on those though. I've lost one or two pins by not putting those on - luckily they weren't the pricey ones.

Our next visit, since we'll probably have more pins to trade at that time, we might take off our very rare pins to make room for the tradable ones.

As far as what pins are the ones to get... it would depend on your taste. For DH just a few months ago, it was the topiary CM set (we were there for the Garden festival). He's still looking for one more. For me, I tried to get the three good fairies CM pins (I'm a Sleeping Beauty fan)

My mom is an avid pin collector everytime we go to Disney. She buys the cheap $6 ones and than goes around and collects the cast member exclusive ones. You can find the list on the disney pin trading site. Its alot of fun but a lot of work tracking down all the cast members

I have some of my pins hung on my lanyard which is hung around my door handle.

I have never lost a pin. I have only been to the world once with pins though. I just made sure every once in a while when waiting in line I pushed all the backs on tighter just in case.

Well what pins to look for. Yopu mighjt want to look for the special year of a million dreams pins you can only get from cast members. Or whatever you like. This year I looked for Stitch pins next year i think I'm going to do the Little Mermaid or Nemo.

I looked at the .pdf documents on the official pin trading site, and it left me thinking, "that's it?" I would've guessed there are far more CM pins than that available at any given time.

Maybe a CM can weigh in on this: do you ever have older CM pins on your lanyard? How long are the open edition or LE ones that guests trade to you on there before they get removed? How exactly does all of that work? Thanks!

I used to display my pins on the backpack I wore to Disney. I had to use the locking backs because I lost a couple. It got WAY too heavy that way though, so now I have a big corkboard at home that I have my pins displayed on. I've seen people do shadowboxes and stuff as well. My collection is larger than it used to be though (not many by most people's standards, but at around 125, quite large for me!) The corkboard works perfectly for my needs.

I only trade with CM's because I'm more a collector than a trader. So if I come across cheap pins, I snag them and just store them in my bag so I can pull one out for a swap when I'm there. I've seen a lot of variation in pins on CM lanyards, but a lot of the same stuff too. Depends on when the last time the lanyard was refreshed with better pins again (instead of being full of the starter traders people buy.) Check managers and janitorial staff as well - they often have better pins because they don't trade as much as the person behind the register at the Emporium or such.

As for pins coming out? Check out DizPins. Great resource for release schedule of pins. Just want to search the absurdly huge number of pins in existence for the heck of it? PinPics is the absolute best source for information.

Maybe I can help -
our last trip a few months ago we traded with a cast member to get quite a few CM pins released in 2005. Some examples:
http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/pin?id=13964
http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/pin?id=12800

Some of our CM pins may be older.

Could you post a link to the Web page you mentioned? We have quite a few CM pins that I can't find by doing a search on the official disney pin site. Thanks!

Thanks to the PinPics link I found some more dates. Our last visit we were able to get a complete set of pins from 2004 by finding them on CM here and there - so WDWFigment, I guess you still can find some older ones.

Still trying to identify a certain Sleeping Beauty castle pin though...

By what pins to get, I meant like.........a year or two ago they had a very small piece of attractions on the pin, and those now (some) are worth alot. What pins that are limited are the IT thing to try and get?

The last time I was there, it was New Year's and I got a new Disney 2005 pin. Half way through the year now, would they still have the year pins?

I definitely recommend the locking backs if you have pins you don't want to lose any... I usually stock up on pins before my trip (via eBay, disney shopping, etc.) and I like to go through my older pins to see if there are any I am willing to part with... I like to set a pin trading "quota" so that I don't go crazy trading... similarly, I try to keep a few special pins on my lanyard just so I have something interesting; hence the locking backs- I lost a few pins before I learned that lesson... I always have fun trading and every pins seems to have a story or memory- I love reminiscing about WDW through my pins...

You'll see the links on that page for "Series 2 and 3," that's what I looked at.
Oh wow - yeah, to answer your previous question, there's definitely more CM pins out there than that. We were able to trade for a good number of CM hidden Mickey pins, and I actually don't even see half of them in these .pdf documents. There's a bunch more out there! Good luck and happy hunting!

Everytime we go she downloads the latest cm pins, but there are always older pins that we look for and usually find. I think its a completely random thing.
