Disney pass holders wonder if annual ticket price is getting too steep

Disney raises prices.

People complain that Disney raises prices.

People keep paying what Disney charges.

People are surprised(!) that Disney continues to raise prices.

And so it goes, as it has gone on for as long as I can remember.

Disney fans are often fanatical, and that's why this cycle will never change. Just look at this quote from the article. People are irrational and even irresponsible when it comes to Disney.

I like Disney too, but no one should make theme parks a priority over retirement and career.

Before her 60th birthday, Lori Mauer meet with her financial adviser, who encouraged her to save more for retirement.

“Or I could go to Disney,” Mauer told her because life is short.

“To me, there is no choice,” said Mauer, a writer who plans to move to Orlando from Coral Springs to be closer to the parks next year. “Disney is my passion.”

It bothers her that her annual pass prices have crept up over the years, but Mauer, whose had her pass for the majority of the past 20 years, pays it anyway. She cuts back on other things, like skipping a work conference she wanted to attend.

“I know what I have to give up in order to go to Disney,” Mauer said.

Wonder no more annual passholders, because prices are not yet steep enough. Revisiting the issue may be appropriate if pricing reaches the point where it begins to reduce the 20 million visitors who stuff themselves into the Magic Kingdom annually.

I usually renew with my tax refund. Not so sure next year. Thinking about renewing mainly hoping for a Galaxy's Edge Passholder preview but there will probably be a DVC preview as well.

With parking at $25 a day it saves you money if you go enough. It would be great if every AP holder told Disney the prices are too much and that they wouldn't renew, however for that to even be possible it would take major time investment by an individual and a lot of promotional work to publicise it.

So yes I've just got another one this year and wasn't particularly overjoyed by the price, but as I still enjoy going I bought one. Me not doing so as a protest however would not work, they wouldn't even notice it. To make an impact there'd have to be a collective effort but I've not really got the time or knowledge on how to do that.

I'll accept that makes me part of the problem, but show me a reliable way of tackling the issue and I'd maybe join in if I thought it would help.

I can only speak for our family-Us, kids, grandkids, inlaws.... 4 of us did not renew our AP's, 12 won't go back. Now, we HAVE found another place we are going that's going to be great and much cheaper but I won't divulge where because everyone will stampede there and then THEY will raise prices uncontrollably! ;)

You mean, the place down the road from WDW that only charges about $300/year for a seasonal annual pass with just a handful of blockout dates, which includes eligibility for discounts that save you hundreds in on-site hotel costs besides? Never heard of it, and I certainly don't have those annual passes for my entire family... winkwink ;)

Plus, despite not liking the increase, they'll likely pay anyway. Even if it means not saving for retirement or investing in career development.

Did they troll that other site for input on this? Who would risk their retirement or career development to go to WDW?

Our personal take? We will get APs every year (Gold) - until the price point for two eight day Park hoppers, twice per year, becomes $1.00 cheaper. Any AP "perks" are minimal, as we own at DVC, and always buy TIW.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

...and your take is indeed wise, if you're able to visit twice a year for that long. :) (That smiley-face is me, pretending I'm not jealous...)

We don't even need that many days to keep with the AP. The break even point now old Gold renewal is pretty darn low, but our mentality is similar. As long as we go at least about 8 days total, we'll get it.

It all makes sense now - Disney reads that other forum for ideas and feedback, because they haven't met an up-charge they wouldn't buy, and basically ignore this one now, because too many won't drink the kool aid anymore. ;)

I feel so... proud.
