Christmas in July at Walt Disney World Resort: We’re Already Prepping for Disney Holidays – Are You?

posted on July 25th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Christmas is still six months away; however, a handful of cast members are already working behind the scenes to plan a very merry holiday season at Walt Disney World Resort.
Check out this sneak peek of what they’re already working on, including new holiday décor and fresh holiday merchandise offerings.

And speaking of the holidays, it’s never too early to start planning your seasonal fun at the Walt Disney World Resort. I just booked a Candlelight Dinner Package for my family. This year, we’ll be seeing first-time narrator Olivia Newton John, and having dinner at Via Napoli. Now, if I could only decide which night to buy tickets for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!

One thing that stands out...in the last few seconds of the video he says they have plans for decorating the new Fantasyland but won't release those details until 2013 - so I guess they are leaving that new area undecorated this holiday season? Or just don't want to tip their hand at the opening date?

It would be too hard to get in and decorate this year. The openings will be very close to the time when they are decorating.

Plus they start decorating around Halloween, so this suggests they don't anticipate the FLE opening by Halloween as some had hoped--were that the case, they could decorate it for the holidays. Seems to point more toward a November opening.

not "missing" it...it's gone and has been gone for years. It's like saying the MK is missing out on Mr. Toad this year...

Yeah cept there were some official rumblings from Disney at one point after everyone complained on their official parks blog that there would be something for next year..which was last year... some of us would like them to follow through on this.. EPCOT in this area is dark and seriously lacking.

I agree with you that outside of World Showcase, it's really lacking...but I don't anticipate any changes. Didn't they make some claim that the Dream Lights somehow compensate for the loss of the LoW?

i find it amazing at how quick Disney does stuff for the holidays, well at least to park guests. its like one day there is nothing, then the next a castle has Christmas lights on it. the decorators are some of the unsung heroes of Disney

I think they need to decorate more of MK. It's only main street at gets decorated. HS is decorated more... I think they should do "trees around the world" around world showcase. Put them right near the edge of the lagoon and theme to the area. At night all of those trees lit would look great!

This is an EXCELLENT idea. I really hope you write it out in a letter and send it to Disney executives.

"Trees of the World" would be so fun to see. They could even sell ornaments that people would buy that would be unique to each world showcase country.

Fabulous idea!

Umm, I think Disney is already fully aware of decorating a park beyond Main Street, as they do it Disneyland and at parks around the globe. And the concept of the trees is good, but we know Disney would never spend money on something like that. Remember Lights of Winter? (If TDO had its way, you wouldn't...)

Good try about writing in to Disney executives...nice one! Always good for a chuckle!

It's all in good fun. Why be a buzz kill? Beyond main street and the hub. Magic Kingdom is not decorated.

And yet at Disneyland they fully decorate New Orleans Square, Frontierland, Critter Country and Toontown, plus large sections of Fantasyland, for Christmas. And in DCA they will be decorating Buena Vista Street and Cars Land fully this year for Christmas, even though those two areas just opened last month. In addition to the decorations they already do in DCA in Bugs Land and Paradise Pier.

Decorating Disney theme parks for Christmas beyond the standard garlands and tree on Main Street USA can be done, and it has been done for over a decade at Disneyland. If TDO wanted to decorate their parks beyond Main Street USA and a few very plastic looking Christmas trees in the other three parks, all they have to do is pick up the phone and call their friends in Anaheim for tips and ideas.

It's interesting that the Orlando execs don't do that.

It's interesting that the Orlando execs don't do a lot of things. I think they have lost all concept of what made WDW so popular and special in the first place.

The only area in MK I would like to see decorated that isn't.. is Liberty Square.

I would say TL too.. but they struggle to figure out TL's basics, I fear what they may think of for future christmas...

I agree.. It would be cool to see it done olde world style of decorating. I just amazes me, If they charge $55+ for MVMCP and they allow $20,000 guest max in... that would be an easy $1.1 mill per party... I think we could spend $100,000 for some decorations. I have watched a few specials about the parks at the holidays. They mention that the decorations last about 5-6 years before needing replaced.

I know a lot of people think the decorations are great, and the ones they do are beautiful. I just think they could create more of a holiday wonderland with some freaking tinsle.

One other observation I see from DL to WDW. Sleeping Beauty's castle has garlands and wreaths. Cindy's has just the lights. Would a big 'ol wreath be so hard to put up on the front?

It's just an opinion, and I am definately not putting Disney down. I just wish it was decorated a tad more for a time of year they advertise as being so special.

They're still trying to figure out whether the Lefou snowman in front of Maurice's cottage will be a statue, an animatronic, or just some poor CM encased in snow.
