Disney over 4 July

We're coming from the UK and will be in Disney World in late June, and by coincidence over 4 July. I'd appreciate some insight from regular visitors or locals on the following:

1) Which park (if any) is going to be the quietest/busiest/most fun on 4 July?

2) Any good tips for getting the best experience of 4 July celebrations?

3) With the term "4th of July weekend" does that mean the weekend before or after the 4th as it's midweek this year.

4) Over what period of 4 July holidays are American kids off school and people off work generally?

Thanks

I can help answer your 4th question. Our office is only closed on 4th of July, we don't have any days off before or after the holiday. It falls on a Wednesday this year so I'm sure a lot of people in our office will take off Thursday and Friday but there is really no telling. Schools will be out for summer.

That's really helpful. Thanks

We were there for 4 th July back in 2012.

Hit MK that day, had an absolute ball. There was a real holiday vibe to the place. a lot of the balconies at Bay Lake (where we were) and Contemporary were decked out.

It will be busy for sure, but if you have enough time at WDW to be able to have a day where you just go with the flow, do your 3 FPs and be happy with whatever else you can get, then go to MK.

We ended up being here last year for Independence Day, so we decided to head over to the parks. Depending on your tolerance for people, it will either be really fun or really stressful. It's possible they hit capacity at MK for a couple hours early in the day (I can't remember), but they were all open in the afternoon by the time we went over. The additional fireworks are always nice, and I will agree it was a festive group for the most part. As stated previously, the schools are out for summer, so it is a busy time no matter what. Additionally for the holiday you will get a lot of locals going to see the fireworks and enjoy the parks. I actually loved it, and I usually hate the most crowded of days in the parks.

Most schools/offices will only be off on the actual day. For instance, I work Monday and Tuesday, then off Wednesday and back at work Thursday. Restaurants and grocery stores will be open.

Animal Kingdom would be the quietest but still crowded, Epcot handles crowds best, MK will be the most crowded. I believe they will run special fireworks at MK on both the 3rd and 4th?

Most American schools are closed the entire summer, anywhere from late May in the south to early September for northern schools, (generally). As for the holiday, with it falling midweek, it will be a one-day event for most offices. That said, many people do take that entire week and WDW is one of their favorite destinations. Best 4th of July stuff likely to be at Magic Kingdom and at the American Adventure in Epcot. Magic Kingdom does have extra fireworks. I know Voices of Liberty typically do extra things in their shows for the holiday.

As you have already read a lot about #3 and #4, I'll address a little bit of #1 and #2. We've done the 4th of July holiday time four out of the last five years. If you want details of our exploits, please click the links in my signature below for the different July trip reports. The biggest advice I can give...do Magic Kingdom on July 3rd and Epcot on July 4th. Magic Kingdom gets pretty insane all week surround the 4th, but the 4th itself just isn't worth doing there - you can barely move. Whereas Epcot has a little more space to move around so even with the insane crowds it is easier to do some things and also to feel less claustrophobic. We will be there again this year on the 4th which certainly proves that we are insane. Our plans include heading to Magic Kingdom the evening of July 3rd for dinner and fireworks and then Animal Kingdom morning of July 4th followed by Epcot the evening of July 4th for dinner and fireworks. Also, there is a good chance that your resort (if you are on-site) will be doing some 4th of July things during the day - if you like to get out of the parks mid-afternoon (as we do), you might be able to find some fun in your resort. Feel free to private message me if you want to chat more about being there that week!

Yikes! You can tell it's been a few years since I've been in school. I totally forgot schools would be in summer break, lol!

We are gonna be there too at that time and I've been during that week before. It's busy but if you plan accordingly you should be ok . Kids are out of school for the summer
