Cannes, France (Multichannel News International) -- While the rollout of digital services has slowed in most markets and many operators in Europe and Latin America face serious financial problems, cable networks around the world announced a number of channel launches at MIPCOM here.

• Brazil’s TV Globo Internacional will bow in Europe in November as a premium pay service via satellite.

• Zone Vision is launching Reality TV on British Sky Broadcasting Group plc.

• The Soundtrack Channel will bow on DirecTV Latin America in November.

• Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. plan to launch branded programming blocks on Canal J and Tiji in France.

David Hulbert, president of Walt Disney Television International, added that his studio has completed a major deal with Modern Times Group, and it will be launching a new Disney Channel in Scandinavia in the first quarter of 2003. Disney will also launch its multiplex in France on CanalSatellite Nov. 2.

• It was rumored that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Playboy Television will soon launch in Germany, and sources said E! Networks is close to announcing some deals in Europe for its English-language service.

Programmers are also paying closer attention to broadband outlets.

• Claxson Interactive Group Inc. is launching El Sitio Digital Channel.

ESDC, which will deliver programming to the computer over broadband lines, will soon be available in Spain and subsequently in Brazil.

Meanwhile, Disney and other studios have been engaged in exploratory talks with digital-subscriber-line operators about the possibility of creating channels for DSL services. Some other programmers already offer their programs online over high-speed services.

• Beyond, a major Australian producer of factual and drama programs, already has three channels that it offers to Telstra Corp.’s broadband services in Australia.
