Hey everyone,

I work in the movie theater industry and heard something that disturbed me the other day. The new CEO had said he was going to start releasing Disney movies in the theater and on DVDand cable. Now this concerns me, how many of you will actually go to the movies and how many will go to the theater? As an industry we did not do so good this year so far, doing something like this would kill the movies. I personally always loved going to the movies with people and enjoying a great disney movie with a group of people. Just wondering what you good people think.

Iger mentioned they'd give it a shot. It's not a done deal as of now, and I don't think it will work at all with huge blockbusters. I guess we'll have to wait and see. My guess is that only small, floptacular movies (romantic comedies, horror flicks) will benifit from such releases. Also, this way blockbusters and quality movies will also benefit from this since there will be less competition at the box office.

I believe he said this was the direction the industry is going. In fact hes right. Over the years Video and DVD sales have moved so close to the original THeater release that it is hurting MOvie ticket sales. Many people would simply wait a few weeks and see it at their own home. The industry has done this to themselves. Some people believe they should simply release the theater and home video version at the same time and save money on double advertisment. I think there crazy for even thinking this. THe theater chains are having enough problems operating now. THis would kill the theaters. I really think if they want to help the industry all of the movie companies need to come together and agree to hold off on DVD and Video sales for an extended period of time following the release of the film in theaters. Throughout the 80's and most of the 90's you would go to the movies because otherwise you would have to wait minimum a year sometimes close to 2 before a movie was released on video and even longer for TV. Now people only need to wait a few weeks or at the max a few months before a DVD is released and its showing on every cable station. Something needs to be done to save these theaters for the long term.

If they released DVD's at the same time as movies I would seriously cut back on my theater watching experiences. Maybe save the trips to one or two blockbusters a year.......I mean I would be saving on gas too, and gas is starting to be a really big money-burner.

I support Iger's decision to move with the industry, but I hate the way the industry is going. :( What would we do without movie theaters?! I love going to the movies.

I'm a HUGE fan of the film industry and even have started an independant film company on the net with my friends. But sadly, the theater experiance is going the way of reading. It's a fading form. Going to the theater use to be such a wonderful experiance. The popcorn, the crowds, the previews.

Now the prices are through the roof, for tickets AND snacks. No offense to anyone, but the theater workers are full of smart mouth teens that take no pride in providing a full filling experiance to their customers, gas prices are through the roof, we now have to sit through COMERICALS before the previews... and the product studios have put out have been pure toiletry. I mean, how many more tv remakes do we have to endure?

I can see why Iger has decided to try this. The big business men have to keep their benz and worry about quality products later.

I love going to the theater, but have not gone in some time due to the lack of things to see. I'll give anything a chance... if it desereves it. Seeing the movies on the screen at home leaves something to be desired. But, how soon will it be before they start putting comercials on the dvd's as well. And the quality of the films will not change, now you will be able to see crap at home and on cable the same time it is on the big screen.
