Disney Marathon 2005

Okay, just got back! All I can say is....AWESOME!!!! To those of you who were at the parks this past Sunday, I apologize for any inconvenience. However, the crowds were very thin all weekend. Our longest wait (besides the resort buses) was Peter Pan, and that was only 15 minutes. We did Epcot on the 7th, which was also my birthday (37 yuck). Magic Kingdom on the 8th, and the run on the 9th. This was the best marathon I have done! I had just done New York in November, so I really had not had enough time to train properly for Disney. I ran over 500 training miles for New York and 80 for Disney. I was expecting to run Disney for about 15 miles then walk the rest for a time of about 7 hour. I not only ran the whole thing, but did it in 5 1/2 hours and felt great. If I had known I was going to feel so good, I would have skipped the porta potties and skipped meeting all the characters.
For a more detailed explanation and pictures go here:

BTW, if anyone else ran, I would love to hear your story. :sohappy: I am a slow poke, but I still had a blast. My only regret was not buying the 'I did it' shirt at the expo. I forgot to bring money to the WWOS and when I tried to buy the shirt on-line on monday, they were all sold out. If anyone knows where I can get one, I would greatly appriciate the help.

My wife and I ran the marathon. This was our second marathon. We ran in 2002.
We had a great time also. The one thing that killed us was the heat. (Go figure, we live in South Florida) :hammer:
We will also be better prepared for next year. There were way too may people in this race, or at least until we cleared the 1/2 marathon finish.
I love the idea that they are doign the 1/2 and full on two different days.

So, will you try to do both and get the special award they will give out next year? I don't know, 1/2 one day, full the next...to much for me.

Oh heck NO!
What we are going to do next year is the following.
I am going to do the half on Sat. My wife will get our two sons up and meet me at MK to cheer me on. Then they will take the monorail to EPCOT and meet me at the finish line. The boys will go their runs (300 meters, and the 5K).
Sunday my wife will do the full , and we will chase her around to all of the parks to cheer her on. This year, the boys stayed with the grandparents, so next year they will participate.
This year we just wanted to finish the marathon, 2006 is going to be for PR's.

Uuuuugh, I dread doing time splits or Fartlek training.

Blue.

Whoa! 5 1/2 hours... geez, I can't even do our 30 minute run over here! Congrats on being able to run that thing! Thanks for the pictures.

I must say, I have high hopes of getting the shirt I want at the state fair. However, I am still looking for back ups. So, if anyone knows where I can get my hands on some marathon merchandise, I would realllllllly appreciate it.

Awesome trip report!!!

My cousin, Chropistopy(here on the boards), and I are actually doing the half marathon in 2006. Looking at those pictures just makes it that more exciting. We've never participated in a marathon before so this will be some kind of experience.

If you go to www.castawayclub.com and look in the WISH forum there was some more people asking about where they can get some of the marathon merchandise too. There's a HUGE group there that participated in this years race and also that are going to next years. I hope this helps you.
