Disney Mall

On a bus we were told disney are going to be building a mall so that people wont be going off property and can get free transportation to the mall. It is apparently going to be built somewhere near Animal Kingdom or MGM.

It will be very large and will have the names that the likes of the Beltz, Florida and Premium Outlets Malls all have. And there would be possibly more discounts than the outlet stores.

If this is going to be built it will likely happen within the next few years.

I first worked at WDW back in '94 and they were throwing that rumor around back then. Now there are 2 factory outlet malls with in 15 min of WdW, so it'll never happen.....

also they just sold that strip mall on the other side of the road from DTD and technially it was on Disney owened property eventhough its on the otherside of the road from the hotels in DTD

There's a new mall opening (Mall at Millennia) this fall right across I-4 from Universal. It’s very upscale with the likes of Macys, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, etc. With the Florida Mall (practically right down the street from the new mall), and Belz Factory Outlet, I think South Orlando is pretty much saturated. Disney knows this and wouldn't be foolish enough to build another one. I think you were duped.

Though I think Mall at Millenia will be nice. It store selection is still boring to me. I can buy clothes at the Florida Mall. They have some very nice stores coming to Millenia but they slipped in a lot of boring "staple" stores that you see everywhere. I would really like to see a French Connection, D&G, Club Monaco, Diesel, and so on. As for the other anchor stores, they really aren;t much different than other department stores, they just have nicer interiors and sometimes a bigger selection.

well yes they offer the basic lines of Polo , Tommy, Nautica,(which is their cheap stuff) and then they offer a step above that. The true department stores are in New York!!

I still like Florida Mall better... I went to other ones in MetroWest and residential areas that were very nice with good prices and more or less the same selection as the FM, but they are away from the tourist areas. I wouldn´t lose my time and go straight to FM. Belz has good prices, but it is too spread out and it´s an outlet... :animwink:

This almost sounds like someone is reading some of the very early materials for Celebration. In the very beginning, when they were first trying to get all of the environmental stuff (Walker Ranch, etc.) worked out, and get the land ceded out of Ready Creek and all, there was discussion that one of the first projects would be a very large upscale shopping mall that would be built as part of the Celebration project. It was supposed to be on the east side of I4 south of where the medical center is now, around where World Drive crosses.
