Disney Magical Express Question

My husband, daughter and I will be staying at Pop Century on a Wed-Sun in September. We will be taking DME from and to the airport. My sister will be in the Orlando area for work. She will be joining us Thursday evening after work. The plans were for her to return her rental car at the airport Thursday evening and take DME to Pop and then return to the airport with us on DME when we leave.

When I booked our reservations in June, I was told when we checked in on Wed to add my sister as a day guest at the hotel to get her on our reservation. (She is considered a day guest since she is not staying the full time we are there). They would then add her to DME list. However, I was just now told by a CM that day guests are never allowed to ride DME as they are not considered on the reservation.

Because I've been told two different things, I wanted to know if anyone here had experience with something similar? Should I call back? It would be really nice if she could ride the DME.

Short answer ~ Day guests are not allowed to ride DME.

IF YOU HAVE A ROOM ONLY RESERVATION:
And you want your sister to ride DME, you will need to call Disney and add her as a guest to your reservation ASAP so she can book DME.

Adding her to your reservation before you travel will incur the additional adult fee (varies by resort level) if there are already 2 adults on the reservation. This will require an increase in your deposit. When you check in at your resort, you tell the front desk that she is not arriving until the next day and you will be credited that first night’s additional adult fee.

IF YOU HAVE A PACKAGE RESERVATION (with tickets and/or Dining plan):
Your sister will need to be on the same package as the rest of the room occupants in order to be listed on your reservation and utilize DME.

If she already has tickets you will have to wait until check in to add her as a Day Guest and she will be unable to use DME.

This is why I had to add my wife's cousin after checkin. She was only staying a few days, and I had a 7 day park hopper ticket, there was no way I (or she) could afford that.

I can't answer for the past, but they do scan your magic band in at DME check in and then as you move to boarding the bus. I would suspect they'll deny entry at either spot.

I stopped at the kiosk, told them I had no magic band (similar to international travelers) and they looked me up, and printed a sheet with bar code to scan.

Were the people you were visiting on a package or a room only reservation?

This was room only. I was added as a day guest as I was showing up as a surprise to one of the other guests.
