Just saw a little clip on my local news that Disney Tokoyo reopened after being shut down for 5 weeks fron the earthquake. Made me tear up a little - everyone looked so happy! My prayers go out to everyone in Japan.

The Tokyo DisneySea MiraCosta Hotel, their version of the Grand Californian located "inside" the theme park, also remains closed until they can get DisneySea opened.

Tokyo Disneyland is only open until 6:00PM daily to prevent having to turn on extra lights after dark, and many decorative or non-essential lighting is also turned off inside buildings.

But at least they were able to re-open Disneyland and two of their hotels. :sohappy:

it has been mentioned in other places that this is a hot topic in Tokyo, some think they shouldn't have opened yet. It seems a necessary step to get the economy back on track & a bit of "normal" back to the area, plus OLC is donating a bit of admission & room rates to the red cross to help out.

They cannot stay closed indefinitely disaster or not. People are employed there, no work=no pay. No customers=no pay, or revenue.

It is very sad that what has happened has happened. But Disney only closed on Sept 11. they were open the next day.

As bad as it may sound. Life must go on.

They are also operating during the day only, shutting down at night to converse energy... I thought that was a proactive step on Disney's part!
