Disney in Michigan

I followed up on a rumor a heard a long time ago about The Henry Ford Museum exhibiting Disney artifacts for the 50th anniversary. Turns out that this is true! Starting in Late 2005 there will be an exhibit of about 500 artifacts incuding Disney models, drawings, artifacts (the original Lincoln anamatronic!) that will be displayed at the musem and begin touring the country in 2006. For those of you that have been to the Greenfield Village and Henry Ford museum, Walt took great inspiration for Disneyland from GFV. If you go there notice the similarities with the train, waterway and paddle wheeler etc.
I work about 400yds from the museum and plan to use my annual museum pass plenty when this comes around.

Great news! :sohappy:

I haven't been over there in a while, but I see myself heading over the Dearborn next fall. It is a great musem, I just tend to go to the zoo since I have a pass and live so close to it.

Wow, I thought the museum was amazing without Disney artifacts, but with that exhibit coming...I think I'll be making a trip to Michigan next fall!

You won't have to con him, after this next trip he is going to be a full fledged Disney Nut anyway, he will drag you! :sohappy:

Sounds like I need to give HFM and GF another look before then. It has been years since I was over there, and it sounds like a good place to go with a 4 year old.

I can't wait for that! I'll have to make sure my mom renews her annual pass again so we can definately go! :sohappy:

BTW one of the malls in the Metro Detroit area has a Disney Christmas display. I'm not sure which one, but for some reason I want to say Oakland Mall. I've heard it advertised on the radio. :xmas:

Wait. Are the artifacts going to be at Greenfield Village or on Henry Ford Museum? I'm confused. :veryconfu Although they are right next to each other they still have different entry fees. I want to make sure I go to the right place. I understand that Greenfield Village was an inspiration for Disneyland but I think the artifacts would be better in the museum.

Its not the Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum any more, it's just the Henry Ford now. And its been revamped *rolls eyes* its lost a lot of its charm, well the village at least. For those of you who go every so often its probably still great, but go every other weekend, you will se exactly why its not the same anymore, def. turning more commercial.

I always figured that the old name was a bit too long...

The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Villiage featuring IMAX theater.

The Henry Ford is much better.

I did a search and saw some photos of the new village...

WOW, paved streets! For the Model T rides I assume no doubt.

The entrance looks so... umm, different. The charm is gone. Oh well. I guess we'll get used to it. Looks more like a Disney entrance now.

And what's this with the lands? Main Street?! Come on! Be more creative!

And check the layout now... the entire park exits through the store. And I thought Disney was bad... LOL

I just went to GFV Holiday Nights a couple weeks ago. I thought it was amazing. I had been to the Museum and the Village numerous times, but haven't been for years. At GFV Holiday nights, the ambiance reminded me of something Disney would do. There were Carollers everywhere, Fife and Drum, Santa and his reindeer, there was a fire pit on every corner to stay warm at, a refreshment barn, craft making for kids- all very high quality features! Needless to say, that trip really turned around my impression of "The Henry Ford" (which, BTW is the collective name of the organization- The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village Still retain their respective names as does the IMAX theater.)

I was at Oakland Mall in September, and they had a sign with Mickey on it saying something to the point of "something new is coming for Christmas this year"

I go to Oakland mall often (Since I leave near it and has a play area :lookaroun ) Anyway they have been doing Disney Decorations for Christmas, but it isn't much and kind of chessey. Oh well. It isn't like they have visits with Mickey or Minnie. Of course once this AK set up came to visit in Southfield and the line to see Mickey and Minnie was soooooo long. I would never wait that long to them them in WDW.

The funny thing is Littl PhD will go visit Mickey Minnie and others at WDW, but won't go near Stanta Clause!

I was considering the GVF holiday nights this year, thanks for the review wild01ride. I think we are just too busy, and I feel down the stairs and broke my tail bone last week, so I don't want to walk around much. I just hope I am healed by Febuary when we go to WDW.

The exhibit will be displayed inside in the Henry Ford Museum.
