I read in the wallstreet paper that five years ago bob iger said he wanted 50% of all profits to come from across the globe, five years later they have 25% of profit coming from across the globe. Though recently they have started to find that the american movies dont do aswell as they do here ( not even close ) so Disney signed with some asian film companies to remake popular Disney movies with asia's cultures. For ex in the remake of Disney Channel's High School musical with stars that are well thought of in Asia and instead of them playing basketball they play ckiret with dance movies it has been way popular there.

So does this mean that there will be different characters depending on where the film is being sold?

This seems like something that will make the profits decline if they have to rewrite a film or production.

But those are my thoughts.

It sounds like a good plan depending on the market--I don't think it'd be worthwhile to remake HSM with French actors since I doubt the return in France would be worthwhile, but Asia has a lot of people--there is a lot of money to be made from good movies that connect with the billions of people over there. China is a GREAT place to make money these days. If they had built a theme park with more than 3 rides, they would have discovered this.

Five years ago, Iger was at ABC doing a terrible job.

Don't know why he would be saying anything about Disney.

As far as Disney in Asia, you've got a total of 4 parks there, with another one in Hong Kong and one in Shanghai more likely than not coming. The movies will always piggyback on the success of the parks.

he owned stock in it ( you can look that up thanks for doing your home work.)

ABC is a subsidiary company of Disney. Meaning that whoever works for ABC actually works for Disney.

Of course he owned stock, thats how his bonuses are worked out.

Now, I wasn't thinking out the time period correctly, and he would have been COO five years ago. However, until he took over for Eisner, he was largely doing nothing and was basically an unknown. Anything he said at the time would have been largely ignored, since he was not viewed as important at the time. (And the argument can be made that he is still unimportant.)

So I guess thanks for doing your homework.

Also, your part about 'the movies don't do well' isn't exactly correct. Pixar and animated movies do well, its just specialized things like 'High School Musical' don't. Pirates has been a huge international success as well.

Didn't Eisner want to get rid of Iger eventually? I thought that's what I read in Disney War, though I may be mistaken. You seem to know your stuff, so I figured I might as well ask. I know as of now I'm not a big Iger fan, but maybe that'll change in a couple years...

And to gman2, The first POTC movie was released under Eisner, and in my opinion it was the best one. Not sure how much Eisner worked on the film, but it was released under the "Eisner Era"
